Would love to know whay "type" of names people give their dcs - i.e. if people stick to the same thrend or style of name for their DC so they flow well together or if it doesnt really make a difference at all.

I'm due number 2 in January and am almost decided on a name, but have found myself coming to decision by trying all names with dds. Just wondering what others do...

Would love to steal hear some...

Too paranoid to post in normal posting name but wanted to share my lovely names:

Thomas William (always known as Tom)
Harry James
Joseph Daniel (always Joe)

All but 'Joseph' have meaningful family connections. And no, we did not consider 'Dick'

I am another one who is amazed at the diversity of names on here

chnageforaminute · 13/10/2009 19:44

Too add my girls names...

Rosie
Martha Rose
Molly Rose

(Rose has meaningful family links)

libbyssister · 13/10/2009 19:56

John (Johnny) James

and

Nathan David

I've seen lots of John's on here as middle names but not as first names. It's become fairly uncommon now. John is my dad's name and I've liked Johnny ever since I watched Patrick Swayze play Johnny Castle in Dirty Dancing

ArghhhhmazingBouncingSpider · 13/10/2009 19:57

I have Jake Paul. Middle name is after his dad.
DC2 expected in Dec will be either Elizabeth May or Elizabeth Rose not decided yet.
We've been told its a girl so have been naughty and not thought of any boys names but ive been jokingly calling the bump Dave so who knows!

TheBlairSnitchProject · 13/10/2009 20:08

Alexander Patrick - he was born on St Patrick's day.

DD due in dec and will probably be Emily Catherine or Catherine Emily depending on whether me or DH wins

Name changed for this as I have posted some pretty personal stuff on here and I would hate to be recognised and linked to that in RL.

If a boy dd would have been Felix or Tobias.

devonsmummy · 13/10/2009 20:30

Some lovely, lovely names on here (MrsW and Astley stood out but lots of others too)

Mine are

Caiela Lorato Morenike

Alexander Douggie Thabang Abiola (known as Douggie, Abiola not on birth cert but used by Nigerian branch of family)

sugardumpling · 13/10/2009 20:37

Alfie Lee and Evie Rose

ilovepeppapig · 13/10/2009 20:38

samuel James
Hannah Katherine

Megglevache · 13/10/2009 20:39

I only said mine as they are nicknames (as SOH will know ). My children have their "official" birth cert names which would be more fitting if they become high court judges etc.

Am loving these especially the middle names!

pinkx4 · 13/10/2009 20:51

We have:
Elizabeth Grace (twin 1 2003) - 'Betsie'
Isabella Jane (twin 2 2003) - 'Bella'
Anastasia Rose (2007) - 'Anna-Rosie' (Betsie's choice!)

We named Betsie after Elizabeth I (I'm an historian and Queen 'Oriana' - Spenser's name for her - is my heroine). Bella was named after another historical heroine, Isabella of Castile. Both were very strong, individual women and we wanted to emphasise the individual nature of our identical twins!

Anastasia arrived at a difficult time in our lives due to a family illness and so we called her Anastasia as she was the herald of a new beginning, a new life for all of us.

Dd4 is due in January. We have just - only last night - decided that she will be called Margarita. My nan's name was Margaret (who I miss terribly) and she was called Peggy for short. We intend to call her Meg with a very pet form of Little Peg. We haven't decided what to put with this but it will probably be May or Hope.

(And they've all got 4 syllables followed by 1 syllable but that wasn't on purpose. Still, with 4 girls, it makes it all nice and fair and even!)

We won't be stopping at 4: a boy would be William Charles (Shakespeare and Wordsworth-inspired and Charles is both our dads' middle name) and as for a girl, we don't know. Probably something like Angelia or Natalia. Isn't it fun naming babies who have yet to be conceived? (Or is it just barmy?)

thisisyesterday · 13/10/2009 20:56

lovely names.
but Anastasia is 5 syllables, not 4!

aoifesmama · 13/10/2009 21:03

DD is Aoife Francesca

If I do have more I think I will have to go with Irish names (I'm Irish) so that Aoife isn't the only one who has to spell her name out to everyone!!

pinkx4 · 13/10/2009 21:07

Sorry, yes, in truth it most certainly is but we've been saying it as a squashed 4 syllable Anast-asia (as in the continent of Asia - not sure I'm making much sense there!) as we were told (reliably but open to opinion if anyone can clarify?) that it was more in line with the Russian way of pronouncing it? Whereas pronouncing all the syllables with accent on the final syllable was more Mediterreanean - Greek?

We also thought Asia-Rose might be a bit more grown-up for her than her sister's choice (which just stuck because it suited her) of Anna-Rosie when she gets to 15, but it will be her choice then. There are some really gorgeous names on here though! Makes you spoilt for choice really. Do I keep on having babies until I've used up all the names I like?

KesterBellever · 13/10/2009 21:10
