We've got a run of the mill surname and I'm considering this. DH also Cornish but many won't get the Cornish connection and might think it is an American made up type name?

1 word - NO!

SqueezyCheese · 23/09/2009 15:13

No. Way.

GrungeBlobPrimpants · 23/09/2009 15:13

Noooooooooooooooooooo

No idea what the Cornish connection is either

rubyslippers · 23/09/2009 15:14

eek

not for me ... what is the cornish link?

HeadFairy · 23/09/2009 15:15

A friend of mine has a dd called Loveday, I had no idea it was Cornish. It really suits her, but they're a bit hippyish and always look like they've stepped out of a Joules catalogue.

DuchessOfAvon · 23/09/2009 15:15

I love it. Check out The Little White Horse by Elizabeth Goudge.

Its off piste for most though and you might find a lot of negativity about it. But I think its great - pretty but not twirly.

Cortina · 23/09/2009 15:16

It's a traditional Cornish name or so DH tells me

Also a character in a Rosamunde Pilcher novel I once read (not a reason particularly to choose and maybe where the West Country association is underlined in my head).

I quite like it!

I should have said, I had no idea it was Cornish until her mum and dad told me.

As if to prove their Cornish connections, they've upped sticks from London and moved down there too! I'm very

PuppyMonkey · 23/09/2009 15:16

Eeek no don't.

Cortina · 23/09/2009 15:17

Love the expression 'off piste'!

We probably are a bit hippyish

DD had a friend at nursery school called Loveday. The family moved to Somerset. Little girl will be 8 now.

I like it. Very pretty.

Bessie123 · 23/09/2009 15:19

Ugh, what a horrible name. Don't do it.

Orangesarenottheonlyfruit · 23/09/2009 15:44

Ignore the naysayers,is gorgeous. do it!

bluebump · 23/09/2009 15:46

It is my friends surname. Not sure I like it as a first name that much.

Tillyscoutsmum · 23/09/2009 15:47

I really like it. A little bit "off piste" for my tastes as a first name but I considered it as a middle name (no Cornish connections here though )

FimboFortuna · 23/09/2009 15:47

Nay nay and thrice nay. Why on earth would you do that to a child. It is almost as bad as Mermaid (yes her real name) I saw in a mag the other week.

MaryBS · 23/09/2009 15:47

Its hideous! (sorry)

I think it's gorgeous - but I am influenced by The Little White Horse and Rosamond Pilcher here too!

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 23/09/2009 15:50

I have no idea why but I think it sounds racy, so wouldn't use it for that reason.

Tidey · 23/09/2009 15:50

I don't like surname sounding names, so a no from me.

Also it sounds like pre-arranged sex appointment. 'Early night tonight darling - it's loveday!'

Fajitas · 23/09/2009 15:51

I've got a friend called Loveday. Got teased mercilessly every time she went on a date. Ended up with a bad rep - totally undeserved, due, in my view, to the name.

Strangely, and despite those bad associations, I really like it.

pippel · 23/09/2009 15:54

I love it, I didnt have the guts to use it though.

I'm sorry, I think it's awful - makes me think of Lovejoy.
