I admit it, I am a bit of a ponce. Considering that, any help with a boys name? We have Charles Lawrence XXXXXXX, our surname is pretty plain.

Have our girls name but struggling for a boy, so far we like,

Rupert
Hugo
Montgomery
Wilbur
Wilfred

We can't have names beginning with B as our surname begins with a J and Thomas, William and Henry are all out.

Any suggestions appreciated!

I love Montgomery - Monty for short.

What about Archibald - Archie for short?

Boco · 14/09/2009 09:29

Wilfred is my favourite boys name ever. As I'm destined never to have one, I've had to get a guinea pig called Wilfred instead. It's worked out pretty well as they're quite low maintenance compared to babies.

Anway.
Lucian
Jasper
Felix
Ferdinand

APoisonTree · 14/09/2009 09:30

I love Wilbur.

Momdeguerre · 14/09/2009 09:35

Ooooooh, I love Ferdinand! Am now pondering how to sell that to DH. . .

DH won't have Archie despite my best efforts althoug he is partial to Algernon.

I love Hugo. Not a fan for Rupert at all. Wilbur -ok
Wilfred - could be will or freddie so its versatile
Montgomery - no. couldn't pull it off myself, and I went to private school and play the flute and I have to be honest and recognise that it's too 'posh' for the cut of my tracksuit!!!

Archie - not posh but Richie short for Richard is classier imo. It's not poncey though.

I love Julius and Caesar!! I would use Julius but I'd never use Caesar. I do really like it though. If I were a minor royal I'd use it I think. (Quite a stretch of the imagination there).

ps, I like Giles and Guy too. Quite short and to the point. Stereotypically hooray henry-ish, but it could be time for a mini-revival there.

MaggieVirgoOn · 14/09/2009 09:37

Love Ferdinand. I knew a Ferdia once. (male) What is that? (language I mean).

Boco · 14/09/2009 09:50

I'm sure you could sell your dh Ferdinand on ponce value if you had to. Show him that picture of Ferdinand of Aragon, couldn't get a more poncey statue.

It's a lovely name. And Ferdie is nice for short.

FaintlyMacabre · 14/09/2009 09:52

Inigo?

bellissima · 14/09/2009 10:03

Love Wilfred.

Wilbur sounds like its from the Flintstones. Rupert is, well, too Woopert. Like Monty but Montgomery too much of a mouthful. Hugo ok, but prefer Wilfred.

I also like Guy. And Alexander. And Sebastian (though hate Seb).

RnB · 14/09/2009 10:06

Ds2's middle name is Julius - lovely name.

Love Mongomery - Monty is cute.

Also like Hugo and Wilbur

frazzledoldbag · 14/09/2009 10:10

I've got a Hugo.
Some of the more poncetastic choices on our (my) list were Monty (Montague), Hercules, Felix, Lysander, Bay, Blair, Bruno, Sholto and Rollo. DH wanted Hamish (we are in Scotland). Hugo is a fab name IMO.
Oh and what about Tristan if you want poncy?

frazzledoldbag · 14/09/2009 10:12

Ferdinand (Ferdie) and Otto are also of that ilk I reckon...
or what about Louis?
or Ptolemy? That's got serious wow factor!

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 14/09/2009 10:12

I rather like poncey names (I have one myself, although it's become less poncey with the passage of time). Of the names you've suggested, I like Hugo the best. Algernon would be cruel.

What about Tristan or Tristram? There are not enough of them in the world. Or Alaric? Or Edgar?

Golda · 14/09/2009 10:14

Cosmo

Rex

Montague

Randolph

Percival

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 14/09/2009 10:14

Aar! Frazzledoldbag pipped me to the post with Tristan.

Felix is tres popular round here - it's becoming the new James.

Hector?

brimfull · 14/09/2009 10:15

I like Wilfred and Sebastian- I like Seb.

Not keen on Rupert.

Casper
Tristan

brimfull · 14/09/2009 10:15

Jonty

LynetteScavo · 14/09/2009 10:18

I love, love, love Rupert and Hugo.

(DS2 was going to be Hugo, but it didn't seem to suit him when he was born.)

Montgomery is lovely, as is Wilbur.

Not quite so keen on Wilfred, but there's nothing wrong with it.

Congratulations on having great taste in names.

Momdeguerre · 14/09/2009 10:20

Loads of fab suggestions - I like Tristram and Simeon but DH has vetoed at the mo.

Also quite partial to Xavier.

Like Felix but so popular now that am not sure, Hector is fab too but too Scottish for my Irish family!

Rex is cool and I do have a real yin for Cosmo!

OP posts:
LynetteScavo · 14/09/2009 10:21

NO, no, not Simeon!

thell · 14/09/2009 10:30

Hey Mom!
You're not hanging about, are you?!

Bah, ggirl beat me to Jonty (short for Jonathan).
Ferdinand is lovely - I like the Shakespeare link, and Ferdie is a cool nn.

Bertrand / Bertram (Bertie)
Benedict (Ben / Ned - my current fave, but DH not keen :p)
Bartholomew (Bartie)
Dominic
Orlando
Jolyon

Not sure I'm in the right ballpark here.

thell · 14/09/2009 10:32

Miles is growing on me.
or Niles.

tammy234 · 14/09/2009 11:41

Some lovely names on here.

I have a 4 year old Quentin (although he's half french and in France it's not considered 'posh' at all, it's in the top 20), and still love his name!

I also love Hugo, Hector, Lucian, Ferdinand and Tristan.

hulabula · 14/09/2009 11:50

I love:

Cosmo
Montgomery (Monty)
Hugo
Quentin (Quinn)
Tristan

Good luck with your decision!

nappyaddict · 14/09/2009 16:28
