Fox for a boy. Is this just too off-the-wall?

Ahh, lockets you have a Cassius. I (obviously) absolutely love the name Cassius.

And it really is an interesting article - well worth a read - hey, it's stuck with me for more than 2 years. Normally I retain things for about 20 minutes.

I am Good with names (waves at Dizzy). Fox is not good.
It's really not. Anymore than Peaches/Apple/Pixie etc are.

Poor kid is gonna be lumbered with a name AND parents who expect him to be 'cool' and will hate you.

FWIW, With 'Bob' I have a 'Bobby' I have never met another child his age with it, so no, he might not be the name I would remember at a dinner party but I can't say the same for the parties he attends in 20 years time.

bellabelly · 04/09/2009 00:39

Fox seems too out there for me. What about Hunter?

hambler · 04/09/2009 00:57

sorry it just sounds unbelievably pretentious, and like a swear word

And people will say "for fox sake" at every opportunity

missmama · 04/09/2009 02:23

Ok I will out myself here to anybody that might know me.
I love the name Fox.
He is blonde has blue eyes, is just over 5ft tall and has rockstar hair.
He also starts year7 tomorrow so neerr(blowing raspbery emoticon!)

Cece - how cool are we. You must be the other one then how old is yours?

MamaLazarou · 04/09/2009 07:21

I adore the name Fox. My husband says no.

akamummy · 04/09/2009 12:35

Miss mama - you have a Fox?! Wonderful! So does he get teased then?
I'm still pretty sure Im going to go with it. Both my husband and I love it.

Awful, self indulgent name...

diddl · 04/09/2009 13:16

Hilarious-and chavvy.

MillyR · 04/09/2009 13:28

Could you not call him Charles on the birth certificate? Then he would have a proper name for his CV when he is older, but everyone could call him Fox during childhood as:

Charles=Charlie=Fox.

I like Fox as a boy's name, but think people need a sensible name for job interviews and so on.

It would be like Thomas/Tom, Catherine/Cathy and so on.

Umlellala · 04/09/2009 13:42

Not sure about Fox but certainly don't think it's laughable. I admire your responses to the yawnmaking, predictable 'why don't you call him john?' and 'what about cheese? or frog?' posts. IMO if you both love it - go for it.

My ds is Skyler (Sky for short) - am desperately trying to make it popular so please consider! Would work with the whole Fox news/Sky news things too .

akamummy · 07/09/2009 08:00

Skyler? Never heard of that one but quite like it. For a boy? I know a guy called Skye but never met a Skyler.

luludoll · 07/09/2009 08:41

Don't do it, give him him a borring normal first name and then use Fox as the middle name and call him Fox at least then he can drop it if he really hates it.

akamummy · 07/09/2009 09:36

Boring names are boring, you forget them instantly.

Just as a matter of interest, anyone got any opinions on Mac as a first name?

OP posts:
luludoll · 07/09/2009 10:14

akamummy its the person that makes the name not the other way around.

abear · 07/09/2009 10:22

I know a Fox and it doesn't seem odd at all - it suits him and I think that is usually the case. Children just do seem to grow in to their names so if it is your favourite you should go for it.
