Fox for a boy. Is this just too off-the-wall?

I'll never forget the time Tiger's mother (the magazine editor from South London) told me she'd have to stay with Tiger at the kids' party as 'he's quite shy.'

LaurieFairyCake · 03/09/2009 23:32

Fox news

you can't make this shit up

dizzydixies · 03/09/2009 23:33

if you're worried about backlash then its not the right name for the wee one - pick something that you love and you think he'll grown into

you don't sound daft by any means so I think you'll be able to weigh it up and decide on the right one for your DS

akamummy · 03/09/2009 23:33

lol.... well it's Fox or Murdoch.... and I prefer Fox.

Ps: No, I don't work for the Sun. In fact, I don't work for News International full stop.

Fox news in the US is the worst news in the universe

all of your friends will know this.....

akamummy · 03/09/2009 23:35

dizzy - no no, Im not worried. I just want to be prepared. People always have stong opiions to names which are different. Thats partly the point of being different. I mean, nobody is going to forget a Fox are they? But a John, Bob, Richard... well they are just lost in the wallpaper if you ask me.

OP posts:
akamummy · 03/09/2009 23:36

Laurie - agreed. Fox News is dire. And he won't be named after Fox News.

OP posts:
LaurieFairyCake · 03/09/2009 23:36

John Lennon,Bob Dylan and Richard Curtis lost in wallpaper

er no....

OurLadyOfPerpetualSupper · 03/09/2009 23:36

How about Maxwell?

LaurieFairyCake · 03/09/2009 23:37

Babe, you work in the news - he will be little foxy news

if he's a bit thick you're screwed.....

akamummy · 03/09/2009 23:38

Laurie - be serious. Im not talking about every John, Bob and Richard you cretin. I'm saying that if you were at a party and met a Fox, Richard, a Bob and a John, I bet you would remember Fox over the others.

OP posts:
LaurieFairyCake · 03/09/2009 23:39

you are definitely right - I would remember your little foxy news more than anyone

not always a good thing

dizzydixies · 03/09/2009 23:39

oh I don't know, each child has the capability to make a name their own regardless of what it is

DD1 has a very common name (apparently - I didn't realise at the time) and she's the only one I know

DD2 has a name we thought was a little different and I now know 3 the same age

DD3 has a name more commonly used for a boy so most don't approve of it for her but we love it, it suits her and am not bothered what people think of our choice

I beleive that if we all had the same names chosen for our kids the world would be very dull, however I think you have to give the John/Bob and Richards of the world their fair place - without them you wouldn't have people striving so hard to find something a bit 'different'

akamummy · 03/09/2009 23:39

Laurie - point taken on the Fox news thing. He may get a bit of stick for having two journalists as parents..... but it could be worse.

OP posts:
LaurieFairyCake · 03/09/2009 23:39

lol at Maxwell though

LaurieFairyCake · 03/09/2009 23:41

if you do go with it you cannot possibly do the double xx - that is beyond pretentious and into the stratosphere unless you expect him to become a superhero or otherwise vie for world domination against the forces of darkness

and you are forgetting Fox News is part of News International which owns the Sun, The News of the World, The Times, The Sunday Times.... and is run by one of the richest and most powerful men in the country. So I think getting a bit of stick for the news thing is a drop in the ocean.

I am usually quite nice, I promise aka

I remembered an article I read in the Times just before DD was born a couple of years ago on the subject of baby names. I have dug it out, it is quite worth a read when you're thinking of baby names - which incidently I am as I'm pregnant (Cassius is a winner for us at the moment, but we have plenty of time to change our minds as baby not due til March).

Article is here

A small part of the article actually covered the name Fox:

?Is Fox cool or weird?? one British expectant mother wants to know. ?Cool!? chorus most of the assembled bloggers (wasn't MN btw).

?Weird,? says Mehrabian. He applies his foolproof rule of thumb to the name in question. ?Imagine you?re going to meet somebody for the first time and all you know about them is that they?re male and that they?re called Fox.? He lets this thought dangle in the air while I imagine what incarnation a prospective Fox might take. In my mind?s eye I am about to meet a casualty of the Summer of Love who plays the tambourine. Isn?t it obvious that John is, in fact, the only name to call your son in 2007?

When I ask Satran about Fox she says that again parents are following the trend for ?word?, ?nature? and ?animal? baby names. ?I don?t think there is a line any more,? she says. ?I think there should be.?

lockets - no point getting hurt. No name will be liked by all. Dont let it bother you.
I am delighted Fox provokes such a reaction - it totally cements my decision to go ahead with it.
What is your ds's name?
