Fox for a boy. Is this just too off-the-wall?

Ridercella - I beg to differ. So what's your DD's "beautiful" name then?

cece · 03/09/2009 23:01

LOL - definitely not my DS, who is very cute

I think we can safely say we have different tastes in names! I would never consider Fox. I like strong but normal names iyswim. Fox is a bit too different for me.

NotanOtter · 03/09/2009 23:01

woody not my bag at all - jumping on a bandwagen 7 years too late

fox sweet

Rindercella · 03/09/2009 23:03

My DD's name is neither here nor there aka. We are discussing the name Fox and I said I disliked it (admittedly quite strongly).

I am surprised you think that you would not get fairly strong reactions to a name that is particularly 'striking'.

Anyway, I will leave you to discuss the merits or otherwise of the name Fox. I think I have made the point I wanted to.

akamummy · 03/09/2009 23:06

Rindercella - touchy. I take it your DD's name is too embarrssing for you to reveal.
I was merely hoping the revelation would cement my belief that your opinion on the name Fox is worthless.
Strng reactions are fine - I was expecting that, you are right - but your DD's name is relevent if your opinion is.
Bye.

Todd -old word for fox and nore acceptable if you're a middle aged, balding insurance salesman.

Fox sounds too close to Fuck's Sake for me.

If you want a really really unusual name then go for John!

OurLadyOfPerpetualSupper · 03/09/2009 23:07

How about Badger?
Ratty?
Moley?
(Not Mr Toad - that would be silly).

akamummy · 03/09/2009 23:09

ha ha ha! At least you are thinking out of the box.....

cece · 03/09/2009 23:09

seeker I agree. Most of his life will be as a man, not a small boy. Fox is cute for a boy but ridiculous for a grown man. John an excellent name for a middle aged balding man especially one who has got a new motor...

mrsruffallo · 03/09/2009 23:10

No,no Todd and John are not good. No,no,no

Our Lady- that's mean

mrsruffallo · 03/09/2009 23:11

John lacks imagination
You'd rather date Fox wouldn't you?

akamummy · 03/09/2009 23:11

No no no totally disagree. It's even better on a grown man than a child.
See my earlier post of Fox Butterfield

ps: no son of mine will be an insurance salesman.

LaurieFairyCake · 03/09/2009 23:12

you can't call your kid fox

or badger

or ratty

or squirrel

or weevil

or in general anything that scuttles or is flea-ridden or suffers from mange

it's just not on

akamummy · 03/09/2009 23:12

LOL. Would it help if I spelt it Foxx?

OP posts:
akamummy · 03/09/2009 23:14

This is wonderful you know. I came online with my little query because I wasn't 100% sure. I am not totally 100% certain Fox is the right choice.

OP posts:
OurLadyOfPerpetualSupper · 03/09/2009 23:16

MrsR, I'm not the one calmly contemplating calling my child Fox.
What about Renard? - sorry itouch can't do accents.

LaurieFairyCake · 03/09/2009 23:17

if you spelled it foxx* it would just look like an expletive

or you couldn't spell

which would you prefer?

akamummy · 03/09/2009 23:18

LaurieFairyCake - hang on a minute... you are the woman who is thinking of calling her son Penis??????!!!
Fox is hardly "out there" compared to that!

OP posts:
LaurieFairyCake · 03/09/2009 23:18

Renard fine if you have a french family culture to draw on

it doesn't go if from Barnsley or Basildon

LaurieFairyCake · 03/09/2009 23:20

I am not thinking of calling my son Penis or Willy for that matter

in fact I am strongly against it

mrsruffalo is dead keen though

mrsruffallo · 03/09/2009 23:20

Laurie prefers cock

akamummy · 03/09/2009 23:24

LOL!
Ok ok..... call a truce.
Lets face it... there are no names out there which everybody in the world likes. Fact.
I just wanted to see what I was up against if I opt for the Fox. My mum will be on Laurie's side. So will my MIL (but she is an idiot so she doesn't count). My husband loves it, I love it, and Im pretty sure that our situation (living in London, working in news, hanging out with friends with kids with equally random names) will mean Fox will like it too.

OP posts:
akamummy · 03/09/2009 23:26

by the way, just to give you all a giggle.... im big on the animal theme this time round. If Fox is a girl, she will be Kitty. xx

OP posts:
dizzydixies · 03/09/2009 23:26

if you like it and your DH likes it then it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks of it

akamummy · 03/09/2009 23:28

dizzy - that's true but I still want to be prepared for any backlash.
