I think the thread title is a bit , maybe it should have been odd or unique rather than worst.

IMO, if people go for a particular theme its a bit strange, I remember a while ago a child being named after the whole of the Man Utd squad, so he had 11 first names, or this

I very much doubt that when people are naming their baby that they think about what the general concensus on MN will be. I'm sure they have more important things to worry about. Like their baby?

Lots of people do and say things that I don't like/agree with, doesn't make it my business. And, as usual on MN, you aren't just getting really ridiculous names like 'cunty-flapjacks', you are getting perfectly normal and decent names that people are poking fun at. Plus the, "Oh, it's a cultural name, that's ok then"?

Just looked at your profile lockets, kids are gorgeous!!! Their names are lovely too, not even 'out there' so why do you have the negative comments???

rizlated · 18/07/2009 18:38

a friend of a friend has 3, Zaphod, Zillian & Cosmic (not sure of the sex!)

katiestar · 18/07/2009 19:42

Locket nothing wrong with your DCs names .They are 'valid ' names IYKWIM.
There is no excuse for negative comments on a 'real ' name I think that would be very hurtful. But if you are going to call your Dc something like 'Tiddly Pom' (I just made that up apologies if anyone gas a little Tiddly Pom) then ,unless you are very naive
you could reasonable expect a few comments.

mummyloveslucy · 18/07/2009 19:47

Armani and Dior have got to be the worst I've heard.

sleepysox · 18/07/2009 19:54

I've taught a girl called Nadia- which was fine until sports day when her father could be heard calling out 'go nads!!!!'

PixiNanny · 18/07/2009 20:34

Sleepysox, thats quite bad actually, I wonder if he realised what he was saying?

I find it funny when people name their child something 'beautiful' having heard the word but are unsure where. Then it results in other people telling the whole world that it means something about anal bleeds. I feel so sorry for those children! But I can't help but wonder why the nurses/midwives don't pick some of these up?! Before I name my children anything I'm going to google the name first, jic

Frasersmum123 · 18/07/2009 21:01

Lockets - I agree, your little ones are gorgoeus and they have lovely names

risingstar · 18/07/2009 21:58

calcifer-i think that i must win hands down

cory · 19/07/2009 00:01

Malena is an old north European name- abbreviation of Magdalena (as in Mary Magdalen).

Hollyoaks · 19/07/2009 00:06

I have heard of twins born recently called Jack Daniel and Tia Maria

KERALA1 · 19/07/2009 14:24

For girls Grace, Isabella, Lily, Ruby and Olivia.

Boys - Tom, Jack, Ben and Archie.

Obviously given by parents who follow the herd.

Hmmm not so funny now is it? Stop knocking those that dare to leave the top 10.

GrapefruitMoon · 19/07/2009 14:32

Don't know if it's been mentioned already but an article in the Observer today where someone had named their pfb "Fox"! But previous worst one for me was "Chipper"....

Frasersmum123 · 19/07/2009 14:33
Hmm
posieparkerinChina · 19/07/2009 14:35

I know two children from a very conservative family called David and Victoria, not that terrible but the mother, who is lovely, has never mentioned the Beckhams....makes me giggle every time.

KERALA1 · 19/07/2009 14:35

to you too

cookielove · 19/07/2009 14:37

'Fox' they must like the x files

edam · 19/07/2009 14:42

But why would anyone want to name their child after Mary Magdalene anyway? She was, um, a woman of negotiable virtue as Terry Pratchett puts it...

forehead · 19/07/2009 16:55

A girl at my ds's nursery is called Destiny. It just makes me think of a transexual lapdancer.

TwoIfBySea · 19/07/2009 20:19

Whereas I would think of Destiny Angel and appear very old!

pagwatch · 19/07/2009 20:22

I loved a near neighbour to my mother who called her children Laura and Ashley. When she called them in for tea it sounded as if she had a soft furnishing emergency.

A liitle boy born atthe same time as my DS1 was called Oo-Jay in honour of OJ Simpson. Poor child
