But there's a difference .A commonly used name that you just don't like (fair play for not naming them )is one thing . But there are some made-up names on here that are just so breathtakingly awful that even the parent must know they are 'marmite ' names.

Some of these names are no worse then the awful old lady and mens names I read on here imo

When I lived in South Africa, our (black) cleaning lady had two sons called Innocence and Evidence. I also knew a Patience, Twinkle and Rhubarb. They probably thought my name was very odd.

quite honestly i think having "worst names" and quietly judging people is as bad, if not worse then having "worst names" and being upfront about them.

Fern ,basil ,Cuthbert, - all awesome names and xerxes I like too

Its names like princess Tiaami -just sound ridiculous to me.

so being called cornflake is perfectly normal is it, not at all a bit odd, and it did happen!

my sister is a teacher and says she would have to leave the room

we cried laughing cos she said what if someone said "that'll do for now fanu"

katiestar - but I probably taught more "virtue" named children than I did anything other name (Shona, Ndbele, English) when I was in Zimbabwe. No-one there thought it was "asking for trouble".

And lets not forget - many "English" names - have meanings which are virtues anyhow.....

Re the virtue names -its a bit hard exoecting a chils (or anyone ) to live uop to a virtue though isn't it.Sod's law dictates they'll be the opposite.I mean if i was Patience or Charity or Hope I'd be scuppered as I'm a bad tempered ,tight fisted old bint !
