Quentin or Hugo

We're expecting a boy at the end of October and have managed to narrow our name choice down to our two current favourites: Quentin and Hugo.

Our dd is Annabel.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

what else was on your list?

Pinkjenny · 24/06/2009 10:40

Hugo

mopsyflopsy · 24/06/2009 10:41

Both nice, although I prefer Quentin.

MrsJamesMartin · 24/06/2009 10:41

They both go with Annabel but, as names, I don't like either of them.

stripeypineapple · 24/06/2009 10:41

They're both lovely and posh.

I think I'd prob go for Hugo.

sonniboo · 24/06/2009 10:45

Both lovely names that go well with Annabel.

If I had to choose I'd say Quentin, because I know a gorgeous 3 year old.

Worzsel · 24/06/2009 10:47

I love Hugo.

We'd have called Ds it if we'd not already used it for the Dog !

I don't really like Quentin.

What about Rory ?

LaDiDaDi · 24/06/2009 10:49

I like them both but prefer Hugh to Hugo (aware that's not your choice though).

Go for Quentin.

Thunderduck · 24/06/2009 11:09

Quentin is nice.

Hugo isn't imho, and makes me think of the dim one from Vicar Of Dibley.

Quentin if you want him to be a homosexual, Hugo if you want him to be a Savills estate agent.

traceybath · 24/06/2009 11:16

Hugo is lovely

AitchTwoOh · 24/06/2009 11:28

lol swedes. they really are pretty ghastly names, imo. toffee-nosed and trying hard. as it happens, the only quentin i know is gay, struggled with his name and his sexuality for years. nice guy, though. the one hugo i know is a nob.

Swedes · 24/06/2009 11:32

AItch - They go quite nicely with Annabel in all fairness.

othersideofchannel · 24/06/2009 11:37

I like both names. Quentin is VERY popular in France (was in top 10 for years) and Hugo is becoming quite popular.

My 12 year old nephew is Quentin - he loves his name (and we don't think he's gay ), but I actually wouldn't mind if he was!

ninedragons · 24/06/2009 11:38

Hugo. Quentin is a wee bit wet.

AitchTwoOh · 24/06/2009 11:40

kontan and oogo are quite different, i think, so france not admissable as evidence. annabel's a nice name, in a princessy sort of way, what's wrong with Jamie if you insist on going for a posho boy thing?

AitchTwoOh · 24/06/2009 11:40

ot tristan? at least he was a vet.

pinkpetunia · 24/06/2009 11:48

Don't be cruel to your child

pinkpetunia · 24/06/2009 11:50

Eugene?

Horatio?

St John (pronounced correctly)

Thank you all for your comments, both positive and negative

We are a German/French family (me German, dh French) and happen to like Quentin and Hugo as names. We don't really 'get' the class issue here in the UK and I'm not sure how 'posh' we are - I'd like to think very.

I am a little shocked at some of your comments about names making someone homosexual - surely you don't believe that ?!!

Anyway thanks for your comments so far.

Sorry, just missed the latest comments.

Don't really like Horatio and Eugene and don't think they sound nice in German and French.... And never heard of St John - is that a name???

Yes, but must be pronounced 'sinjin' - see 4 weddings & a funeral.

The names you suggested are loaded with pretension in the UK. All joking aside, it could have repercussions for your ds if you go for either of those names. Unless you send him to Eton
