ds3 was born on fri and is yet to have a name, poor little love.

shortlist is (in no particular order):

Noam
Lars
Nico
Soren
Lucien

please help me choose one. the name I absolutely adore has been well and truly vetoed by DP. so we're compromising and as a result have these 5 names that we both like but now can't choose between.

a couple of noteworthy points:

  1. constructive criticism welcome. downright rudeness and pointless "i hate them all" posts really not necessary (please. i have just given birth and am hormonal as it is!)
  1. yes, we are aware that Noam could sound like gnome. we have discussed it and the name is still on the list.
  1. PLEASE no more suggestions! we've only just managed to narrow my list of 21 names down to this few lol. don't need any more confusion

Tinker · 15/06/2009 20:02

Oh yes, use at least 3 (not Noam though )

thisisyesterday · 15/06/2009 20:02

yes, Noam is indeed a nod to Chomsky.
and Soren to Kierkegaard (not lorenson! lol)

oooh I love Soren, it has such a lovely sound to it, would belong to a very calm person i imagine!

thisisyesterday · 15/06/2009 20:03

more info actually, surname starts with an M

so Noam M... might sound as though we're saying Noah M... mightn't it?

My vote is for Soren

bodiddly · 15/06/2009 20:07

another vote for Lucien!

audley · 15/06/2009 20:07

Soren is wonderful (may put it to DH when the time is right!)

Tinker · 15/06/2009 20:09

Who are Nico and Lars in homage to? Assume Lucien being Freud?

Kirstieallsoppsalterego · 15/06/2009 20:29

I do know a Soren, and he's lovely. He does have the line through the 'o', though!

Wheelybug · 15/06/2009 20:33

hmmm... was wondering if you'd got round to naming the poor mite yet

My opinion FWIW.

I'm not so keen on Noam (think you will have trouble with everyone thinking its noah) or Nico.

I really like Soren.

Jodyray · 15/06/2009 20:33

Lucien is my fave, then Soren. Good luck whichever you choose!

dizzydixies · 15/06/2009 20:50

Soren was on our list so I love it, 3 girls though

have a nephew Nico and its nice too - either of those imo

MIAonline · 15/06/2009 20:55

Congratulations

Nico is my favourite, followed by Lucien.

thisisyesterday · 15/06/2009 21:38

nico and lars just because we like them

argh, this is so hard

OP posts:
dizzydixies · 15/06/2009 21:40

can I ask what DS1 and DS2 are called so we can put by which goes

jkklpu · 15/06/2009 21:44

not Noam - wouldn't name anyone after Chomsky
The rest depend slightly on whether you have any connection with the nationalities they fit with. Wouldn't call a child Nico as a full name - what's wrong with Nicolas and then shortening it? If you have Nordic connections, Lars and Soren are fine; otherwise, I'd say they were a little pretentious, I'm afraid. And why not Lucian instead of Lucien unless you're French, which you may be?

thisisyesterday · 15/06/2009 21:45

ds1 is Linus
ds2 is Gabriel

OP posts:
dizzydixies · 15/06/2009 21:52

oh lovely LOVELY names I am an absolute sucker for names with different sounds iykwim? so my preference would be

Linus, Gabriel and Soren
Linus, Gabriel and Nico

my 3 girls all have different sounding names, I want them to know which one I'm shouting at in the middle of Tesco

all lovely though so you can't go wrong

hester · 15/06/2009 21:55

Noam is my favourite. I seem to be in a small minority on this one! (I like Noah too.)

And congratulations!

thell · 16/06/2009 11:36

Congratulations!

And I really like your name choices, including the other DSs

My fave is Lucien, but Noam is the only one I'm not so sure about, especially with the M surname. You could keep it as a middle name though, if you really love it.

Now you've had a think, sit with DH and knock one or two more off the list ?

Good luck!

LadyPinkofPinkerton · 16/06/2009 11:45

With your other names I like Soren. Loving that you have a Linus. DS2 is regualrly called this despite it not beinghis name due to his fondness for his blankie

Bathsheba · 16/06/2009 13:15

I LOVE Soren - I was desperate for us to decide on Soren as our boy;s name for this one, esp as there is a chance it will be born in Norway, but DH says no.

I LOVE Soren

cyteen · 16/06/2009 13:35

I really like Soren and it goes lovely with your other two boys

seeker · 16/06/2009 13:41

PLEASE not Noam. Don't give him a name that will require explanation every single time he tells anyone what it is for the rest of his life!

Why not Noah?

SpawnChorus · 16/06/2009 14:13

Seeker, why on earth would he have to explain the name Noam to everyone??? I know plenty of people with unusual names, and don't go demanding explanations. I usually just think Oooh that's an unusual name, how nice. Unless it's Pigface or Adolph or McStinkyfinger of summat.
