Seth is a favourite of mine.
Jethro reminds me of the mucky Cornish "comedian".

Ledodgy · 18/05/2009 22:39

Setho. Jethro reminds me of the Beverly Hillbillies.

Ledodgy · 18/05/2009 22:39
  • Seth I mean not Setho!
Thunderduck · 18/05/2009 23:25

I love Seth and Jethro but not Amos.

Tortington · 18/05/2009 23:27

seth is normal

amos - reminds me of emerdale farm - and i didn't ever watch it

jethro is a bit redneck

beanieb · 18/05/2009 23:29

My brother is Jethro and I have only met 3 in my life so I think you'd certainly not have many in the same classroom!

muffle · 18/05/2009 23:30

Seth is my fave of those.

Jethro just too "farm hand". Amos - meh

Servalan · 18/05/2009 23:35

Seth is a fab name.

Don't personally like the names Amos or Jethro

FrankMustard · 18/05/2009 23:36

Seth would be my preference, but there are quite a few Seths around at the moment
Jethro makes me think of Beverley HIllbillies too
Amos - makes me think of a guy with an Abe Lincolm beard for some reason!

Sidge · 18/05/2009 23:38

Seth is OK but round here would get called Seff!

muffle · 18/05/2009 23:40

I was thinking Jethro could be shortened to the funkier Jeth but then of course he would spend his life going "no not Geoff..."

MrsMerryHenry · 18/05/2009 23:40

I knew a Jethro. Lovely guy. But easy to take the piss out of. Everyone called him...

(wait for it)

(waaaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiiit for it...)

What rhymes with 'Jethro'?

Deathrow.

Poor love.

FrankMustard · 18/05/2009 23:41

lol at "No, Not Geoff!"

oh I am so glad I have completed my family and don't have to think about baby names...it's just too hard!!!

Only problem with Seth is if he develops a lisp......

FrankMustard · 19/05/2009 00:01

...must quickly add, before you all think I'm cruel, that ds2 has a lisp, so I'm not being horrid, just practical!!!

tummytickler · 19/05/2009 08:01

I have a ds (nearly 2) called Amos, so i love that and we are considering Jethro for another ds. Dont like Seth much though

seeker · 19/05/2009 08:03

Does anybody read "Cold Comfort Farm" these days?

beanieb · 19/05/2009 08:42

My brother (who I metioned earlier) was named after Jethro Tull, the inventor of the Seed drill not the band. Yes, he did have that whole Jeff/Geoff confusion and I think he was picked on a bit but I think he likes his name now

BonsoirAnna · 19/05/2009 08:44

They are all far too "literary farm hand" for me! I like names that are more sophisticated. But each to his/her own!

ScummyMummy · 19/05/2009 08:47

Seth is a great name.

seeker · 19/05/2009 08:55

"Yes, he did have that whole Jeff/Geoff confusion and I think he was picked on a bit...."

If there is the remptest chance of a child being picked on because of their name, then DON"T DO IT! Yes, of course people might find something else to pick on him for, but why hand the bully a custard pie and say "Here, hit my ds in the face with this"?

MadameCastafiore · 19/05/2009 08:58

Have you been over dosing on Emmerdale Farm?

beanieb · 19/05/2009 10:04

Sorry Seeker but I totally and utterly disagree and I think I have disagreed with you before about this. It's the same as saying if you have red hair then don't have kids because there's a remote (or not so remote) chance that they will be picked on, or if your child needs glasses don't let them have them as they might be picked on.

Kids are horrible sometimes but parents shouldn't allow other people's lack of manners, tact and sense stop them from calling their children the names they want. OK - calling them slartybartfast might be going to far but names like Jethro, Seth and Amos are not wacky names, they are names which maybe some people can't help making certain associations about but that doesn't mean they are wrong.

I find it really weird that people think other people being twats about things is enough of a reason to not call a child what you want (again within reason!) and we shouldn't be bending to these bullies but should be proud of the names we have.

what's more impoprtant is instilling in your child a sense of pride for their name and themselves and also teaching our own children that there are many different names of all kinds from all over the world and it mean and cruel to pick on another person for the name they were given.
