I like Hope and Grace, but not really keen on any of the other virtue names

Was at a theme park the other day..... and a very large,dumpy teenage girl called Grace,and I thought oh what a shame,
pretty name,but she was anything but Grace(ful) !!

Sadly the little mite i was am carrying won't need a name, Honey or otherwise, as my twelve week scan this morning showed it died two weeks ago. Going in thurs for an evacuation.

going to retire from MN for a bit.

As for Honey, I quite like it (actually I know siblings called Honey and Poppy ) and well, it sounds certainly much much nicer then Honor...is that even a name

i also work with a girl in her mid 30s called honey, doesnt seem odd at all (hairdresser not porn star !!hahaha)

I know of an older Grace who is anything but graceful. Also know a very moussey
coloured Ebony and a fair few non-ginger Ambers!

Around here I think you'd be more likely to be teased for Jane or Honor than for Honey. Grace is very common, along with some other virtue names. But Jane??? For this generation, that really would take a bit of living down.

I think there are different sides to this:

what middle-aged mumsnetters think is a sensible ordinary name

what is actually likely to raise eyebrows in a classroom full of children

of course names are continually crossing and re-crossing the boundaries

I was very saddened the day Oscar made it across the line: to me, this is not a sensible ordinary name and never will be

but I have to admit, it's unlikely to get you teased in the playground

for the record, I don't like Honey, Honor or Jane

I think Jane is a perfectly acceptable name Cory, I can see it making a come back in a few years.
btw most Janes that I know are definaely not "plain" as the saying goes.

what's wrong with Oscar cory? It's a very old and traditional name and has been through many phases of being popular.

The only names I really take issue with are those with apostrophes/ hyphens/ phonetically spelled.

Anything else is a live and let live scenario in my book. Some names I like more than others, even though there are relatively few names I would consider for a child of mine. I have 'rules' - no family/ friends names, no alliteration, no rude spelling initials etc etc etc.
