DivamakesKimchi · 25/04/2009 00:06

loads of Lilly, Poopy, Daisy, Maisey, Holly, Molly, Ellie, Loola,Tallulah around here almost every girl

tigerdriver · 25/04/2009 00:13

but, Diva, are there any Snowdrops?

Agree. DS's class is full of the above. There is a Paige. and unkindly I did ask "oh, is that Paige Turner then?"

For goodness sake.

WHY do people get their knickers in a twist about calling children anything outside the Sophie / Lucy / Isobel comfort zone?

It's just so dull.

My name is Kate. Just Kate. Not Katharine or Catriona or Kathleen. 30 years ago my grandparents were AGHAST that my 'wacky and unconventional' parents were going to be so wild and daring as to call me just Kate. A NICKNAME !! Instead of a REAL NAME !!

Names change by generation. Our children will grow up in classes of Honeys and Snowdrops. These will be the names normal to them.

60 years from now the more dull, bored and narrowminded Honeys and Snowdrops among them will be tutting and sighing about the 'shocking' names their children and grandchildren like.

SoupDragon · 25/04/2009 07:39

"60 years from now the more dull, bored and narrowminded Honeys...."

No they won't because they will have changed their name to Jane by then, fed up with the endless joking "Alright, Honey ".

Honey isn't a name, it's a term of endearment. Amongst other things.

Snowdrop, whilst probably my favourite flower, just doesn't work as a name to my ears.

seeker · 25/04/2009 08:04

Please don't force me to post again about my brother's poor school refusing step son and his siblings with their "wonderful, beautiful unique" names.....

TheBolter · 25/04/2009 08:13

Duffy I heart the name Kate.

I always get a good vibe when I meet someone called Kate.

I will use it as a middle name if I have another dd.

You are lucky, it's a slightly boring but very fab name.

TitsalinaBumsquash · 25/04/2009 08:19

I quite like the name Honey for a little girl, its just a sweet, sugary name like Daisy or Poppy (not Poopy!) if you grow up to be a strong, intelligent woman who gives a toss if your name is Honey?

Honor is a haorrible name by the way.

As for Porn star name its not as if were talking about the name 'Candy' or 'Bunny' are we?!

TheLadyEvenstar · 25/04/2009 08:23

Imagine your DD becoming a dr.

she could be known as DR POOPY who only deals with anal problems...

ooppss soz late night early morning an all thta!

DuffyFluckling · 25/04/2009 09:16

Seeker, every sympathy to the children, but there are plenty of school refusing Toms and Rachaels too. And plenty of popular, happy children with unusual names. It is not down to name alone.

DuffyFluckling · 25/04/2009 09:19

Thank you Bolter. (Mitford fan?)

I am very meh about my name. It is, as you say, boring, but unremarkable. I am always one of at least 3 Kates wherever I go. I can't leave answerphone messages for even my closest friends without specifying which Kate I am.

TheOldestCat · 25/04/2009 09:19

Would the nickname for Honey be Hun?

whomovedmychocolate · 25/04/2009 09:20

There's a proctologist at our hospital called Dr Hole

But you can change names within the first year if you completely fuck up naming your child change your mind

edam · 25/04/2009 09:26

I once met a Doctor Nurse. Imagine how fed up he must have been with all the jokes...

If people really want their child to be different, these days you are better off calling them Peter or Jane. Or John or Mary I guarantee there will be no-one in their reception class with the same name!

Mind you, I am quite pleased with the popularity of Jack. Once met a children's storyteller who pointed out that there are LOADS of Jacks in traditional British stories - more Jacks than any other name. So it's kind of honouring our traditions and culture, innit?

i can't believe hoe rude this opening post is considering you have posted on my opening thread margot and know that there is at least one lady on there who has shared that her child is named Honey....what is wrong with you?? smacks of utter bitchyness in IMO

seeker · 25/04/2009 10:26

If you think that is utter bitchyness you must have lead a very sheltered life!

CandleQueen · 25/04/2009 10:30

If you like Snowdrop, try using the Welsh version Eirlys. Very classy IMO.

(Pronounced Ire-liss )

Hey ya gits! my DD1's middle name is Honey!

cornishwelk · 25/04/2009 13:56

I think this is a horrible thread. I have a Honey and she is not a porn star.
She's a golden retriever who lives with my parents

Candy and Bunny are in the same category as Honey imo.

TheFallenMadonna · 25/04/2009 13:59

TMMJ makes a good point. I listened to one of my year 11s discussing names for her baby the other day (a whole other thread), and -yikes.

Clearly, we should all name our girls Kate, and our boys Jack. Very simple, we can just give them numbers for identification purposes if required. So much saving of time.
