What do you think?

DH and I both like it but are worried about it being shortened to cassy which is quite girly

Love it. I know a little boy who is Cassius shortened to Cass, which doesn't seem to have caused him any problems so far (he is 6).

Hassled · 02/04/2009 20:03

The most famous Cassius was a nasty piece of work who was one of the main conspirators in the murder of Julius Caesar. So that would be what I would associate the name with.

Although there is Cassius Clay/Mohammad Ali, I suppose.

changer22 · 02/04/2009 20:07

I know one and he is shortened to Cass too. I think he is 6. I wonder if he is the same one?

diedandgonetodevon · 02/04/2009 20:08

I love it! Cass is a lovely nn too

Horton · 02/04/2009 20:11

changer, does yours live in Spain?!

changer22 · 02/04/2009 20:13

No, southern England. Not the same one then!

IheartNY · 02/04/2009 20:14

I know a 30 year old Cassian, shorterned to Cas and it suits him perfectly.
Lovely name as is Cassius

NorktasticNinja · 02/04/2009 20:16

It's a beautiful name, DP and I have seriously considered it for DC2 but we decided we couldn't live with giving a name with that meaning (empty, vain). 'tis a shame because we do love it

Horton · 02/04/2009 20:21

Ah, not the same one then.

I would totally consider this for a future DS if it wasn't for the fact that the one we know is such a close friend.

QuackQuackQuackQuack · 02/04/2009 20:25

Is it pronounced KASH-us?

LetThemEatCake · 02/04/2009 20:31

it is a lovely name which I considered for ds but then found a meaning for it on t'internet which I did not like. Small thing but put me off a bit.

We ended up going for Cassian.

He never gets called Cassie, sometime Cass, most times Cassiano.

As well as being the name of the fabulous Cassius Clay, it was also the real name of the Big Kahuna in Gidget. His was shortened to Cass. So I totally associate it with a big, hunky, surfer-type.

There is a mners here - think it is Lockets??- who has a ds called Cassius.

Can be pron Kash-us but much nicer as Cass-i-us, I think.

loobylu3 · 02/04/2009 20:42

Like it a lot!

bettany · 02/04/2009 20:49

Love it (but prefer Cassian) and Cass is great. The only Cassius I know is shortened to Cass. He looks like a mini Boden model.

percy2006 · 02/04/2009 21:09

We were going to have this or Cassian for our 5 wk DD both are lovely with Cas as a nn still want a Ds just so I can use it lol!!

ItsMargotBeauregarde · 02/04/2009 21:10

this is a mumsnet name. There are two I think.

It has grown on me. I prefer Julius or Cassian or Caspar though.

BlueBumedFly · 02/04/2009 21:16

Love it! Like Cassian too.

suwoo · 02/04/2009 21:19

I love it but sounds ridiculous with our surname which ends in SS. SOmeone on here suggested Cassian but I had never heard of it before and wondered if it was 'made up'- obviously not . Think we are going with Felix.

suwoo - that's funny as our ds is Cassian and our dd's name often gets mistaken for Felix! (it's Phoenix)

Love the name Felix though, lovely

suwoo · 02/04/2009 21:58

Thanks LTEC. Have you had anymore thoughts on no3?

Sorry, quackquack.

sweetkitty · 02/04/2009 22:01

It's not easy having great taste in names is it

LetThemEatCake · 02/04/2009 22:33

oh, I dunno. I'm only 15 weeks, got the results of my CVS yesterday (all clear, TG) and she asked if I wanted to know the sex - I don't, but I almost do just so I can get to grips with one name or another!

At least we are decided on Anoushka for a girl.

Zephaniah still my clear fave, but as I say, 25 weeks to go. Other inspiration may strike!
