FAQinglovely · 16/04/2009 15:58

well if they've ever been into West Wing, ER, CSi and a few other bits and bobs then they may have taken the name from an actress that appeared in all of the above

I was going to say "Tiaamii", but a)I'm not sure that's the 'spelling' and b) it's not a name

so wouldh ave to stick with things that irk me personally, like Kayte etc

but I try hard not to be snotty about people's choices of name, after seeing my children's names laughed at on here made me bawl

Squirdle · 16/04/2009 20:50

By unquietdad 'Isn't Rebekkhah close to the original Biblical spelling, though? I don't think it's in the same category.'

No, no, no!! Rebekah is the correct spelling!!! It's my name and the amount of s I have had when spelling it are amazing! It's the Old Testament spelling. I much prefer it to Rebecca.

I like unusual names, but they have to be proper names iyswim.

Squirdle · 16/04/2009 20:51

And spelt in the correct way!

MrsMcCluskey · 16/04/2009 21:12

lunamoon2 · 17/04/2009 00:01

Apparently the English have used "K" instead of the original "C" in lots of instances.
I think examples of this include:
Rebekah not Rebecca
Catherine not Katherine
Ciaran not Kieran
Cian not Kian

By the way does anyone the original spelling of Clair?
I am guessing that this is the original spelling but like opinions.

lunamoon2 · 17/04/2009 00:02

Squirdle · 17/04/2009 10:48

Rebekah is the original way of spelling it...it's OT. Not that i am bothered by the 'Rebecca' spelling at all, it's still lovely, i just prefer my spelling...even though it means I have to spell it out to people every time I tell them

jamcrumpet · 17/04/2009 11:06

R-marni is just hilarious!

My midwife friend asked a family if they had chosen a name for their new daughter yet. "Fem-ar-ley" they replied. Thinking it unusual she asked where it came from....it was already written round her wrist band 'Female' !! No word of a lie.

3boys4girls · 17/04/2009 15:02

We called our DS2 Conor, simple classic spelling but we were asked if we would be spelling it Connagh..thats just odd! I've seen it spelt with a double n and with an er instead of or but never with an agh!?

The worst I've seen though was Roobi, its such a simple lovely name why ruin it with such a silly spelling!

oopsacoconut · 17/04/2009 20:54

Tielur

I have an aquaintance with a little boy and when I wrote their Christmas card I spelt his name Tyler but theirs came back Tielur.
