What is the general consensus on this name mumsnetters? Baby born last week and DH and I still haven't agreed on a name! We both like this but are a bit worried about cat jokes, etc!

reminds me of the sullivans

flooziesusie · 04/03/2009 17:09

I love it actually... an oldie, but a goodie! (grin)

2pt4kids · 04/03/2009 17:09

Gorgeous name. Love it

frazzledoldbag · 04/03/2009 17:34

I have one. She is fabulous and beautiful, and everyone loves her name. Plus (round here anyway) we've never met another one.
(There are 5 Katies in her year at school but no Kitty's). She is 8 now and it's still one of my very fave names. Love it. Congrats on your little girl by the way.

MrsMerryHenry · 04/03/2009 17:35

I think it's awful. Sounds like a 'toy' name.

georgiemum · 04/03/2009 17:35

Short for Catherine. I like it.

frazzledoldbag · 04/03/2009 17:36

BTW nobody has ever made a cat joke to us.
Although sometimes DH calls her 'Kitty-Kat as a pet name'. But that's not a bad thing IMO.

I love it, considered it myself. DP wouldn't agree to it for DD because he thinks it sounds silly. If you both like it, go for it.

wotulookinat · 04/03/2009 17:55

Lesbian on Big Brother the other year. Or a cat. Not good.

Sesi · 04/03/2009 18:03

It's a very cute name for a little girl, but it's a bit naff for an adult imo.

I'd go for Catherine or if that's a bit dull Katerina and give Kitty as nn. Then she'll have some options when she's older if she's not kookie enough to be an adult Kitty.

PeppermintPatty · 04/03/2009 18:11

My DD has a friend called Kitty, but she can't say 'K' yet (she's only 20 months) so she calls her Titty

But other than that I think it's a lovely name.

Only Kitty I know is nearly 50, an academic and the loveliest person. So, yes, good for grown ups too.

Love it.

mickeylou · 04/03/2009 18:18

love it.

wotulookinat · 04/03/2009 18:19

Oh yes, you're right Lockets
Kitty was also the name of Anne Frank's diary.
I don't like it - it's not what I would class as a 'proper' name. Could be a nickname, short for Katherine.

Wolfblass · 04/03/2009 18:20

Love it

MaryAnnSingleton · 04/03/2009 18:21

I absolutely love it, as I do Kit for a boy

Lovely.

wotulookinat · 04/03/2009 19:28

I've just never met anyone called Kitty. The more I think about it, though, it's actually growing on me.

Disenchanted3 · 04/03/2009 19:35

I wish I had called DD Kitty

solo · 04/03/2009 19:38

I knew a Kitty once. Didn't think anything good or bad about it(was an adult though). I quite like it.
