Any opinions?

hmmm

UnquietDad · 01/03/2009 16:12

Makes me think of the old biddy from "Adrian Mole" - Bert Baxter's wife.

mrsruffallo · 01/03/2009 16:13

Oh no! Look at my thread title

MmeLindt · 01/03/2009 16:13

not a good idea.

Gunnerbean · 01/03/2009 16:14

What's happening today? This is another gypsy's name. It also smacks of the sort of whacky name a celebrity would give a child.

mrsruffallo · 01/03/2009 16:15

Gypsy name?

OP posts:
MamaG · 01/03/2009 16:15

I hate it

CuppaTeaJanice · 01/03/2009 16:15

My first thought was Burt Baxter's late wife from Adrian Mole. With her pot of rouge.

mrsruffallo · 01/03/2009 16:15

Hate is a very strong word

You're avin a larf aintcha?

also Gypsy? wtf?

SparkyFartDust · 01/03/2009 16:18

oh yesss unquietdad!
I love the Adrian Mole Diaries.

I do not love Queenie though- conjures up a lady with fag stained fingers and dirty net curtains.

Gunnerbean · 01/03/2009 16:19

Names are very personal mrsruffallow. If you like the name Queenie (which you clearly do) why ask for others' opinion on it - particularly if their opinions might offend you? Maybe MamaG does hate the name Queenie. She is perfectly entitiled to as well. Actually, I think it's perfectly horrid too.

MmeLindt · 01/03/2009 16:20

I have a vague recollection of a book that I read a long time ago with a heroine called Queenie. Jackie Collins type of book, iirc.

Gypsy name? That is a bit strange thing to say.

bamboostalks · 01/03/2009 16:26

I know quite a few Queenies actually, it is fairly popular in the African Caribbean community.

ShowOfHands · 01/03/2009 16:28

I like. Victoria often given this as a diminutive. Suppose you could do the same with Elizabeth. Or Mary. Or...er... Freddie.

mrsruffallo · 01/03/2009 16:39

Tht's a good idea SOH. Maybe Queenie as a nickname then

piscesmoon · 01/03/2009 16:39

I think Queenies used to feature a lot in 1930's books about boarding schools-they were generally good at hockey as I recall. I think it is a bit dated like the books. (I used to read everything when I was young, and worked my way through an older relation's set)

MrsMattie · 01/03/2009 16:40

Love it. A real old fashioned cockney name

suwoo · 01/03/2009 16:44

Its a Liverpool and Manchester term of
endearment ie 'Alright Queen'. That would put me off I'm afraid.

Kbear · 01/03/2009 16:50

There is a Queenie (aged 7) in DS's class. I like it.

I had an Auntie Queenie too! She was great!

Kbear · 01/03/2009 16:50

It's not a gypsy name.

mrsruffallo · 01/03/2009 16:55

Really suwoo? Why would that put you off?

differentID · 01/03/2009 16:56

There is a neighbour who has a cat named Queenie.
It takes a very confident person/ family to pull off a name like that.

LadyOfWaffle · 01/03/2009 16:58

I like it, though it could be great or naff... I knew a Queenie, she really suits it.

suwoo · 01/03/2009 17:01

Erm how can I say this nicely.... because it tends to be rough people that say it like that.
