Queenie is Miranda Richardson in Blackadder II

"Who is Queen?"

mrsruffallo · 01/03/2009 17:03

"Is she prettier than me?!!"

suwoo · 01/03/2009 17:05

Good answer Mrs Ruffallo, you look all enigmatic and I look like a snob

mrsruffallo · 01/03/2009 17:06

yes, that was the idea suwoo

I'm back. I live where the term is used in that way, so it would be weird. Like calling the baby 'hun' if that makes sense.

fishie · 01/03/2009 17:08

my grandmother's name. she hated it i love it of course. she was born in 1904 and called after an acrobat.

gunnerbean please explain yourself re 'another gypsy's name' what on earth are you on about?

Nontoxic · 01/03/2009 17:12

I'm from Liverpool, and it brings back memories of all the (nearly said queen bees) popular but nasty girls in school simpering and calling each other 'queen' and 'babe.'

Agree with Suwoo - too - erm - working class, and not in a good way.

mrsruffallo · 01/03/2009 17:13

Please don't get me started. There is nothing wrong with being working class.

suwoo · 01/03/2009 17:18

Do you know what I mean though about using 'hun' as a name, does that sound better- thats what it is like round here. I actually like it as a name, it just wouldn't work round here.

suwoo · 01/03/2009 17:19

I like Pearl...along the same lines as Queenie?

Nontoxic · 01/03/2009 17:21

I agree there's nothing wrong with being working class - it's just that this name puts me in mind of those awful girls, and as Suwoo says, it's just like saying 'hun' or 'babes.'

wotulookinat · 01/03/2009 17:24

Makes me think of drag queens. Don't do it.

ZZZen · 01/03/2009 17:24

not keen

anything else you like?

mrsruffallo · 01/03/2009 17:26

This is a Brighton based family

OP posts:
suwoo · 01/03/2009 17:28

I bet it would work nicely in Brighton, just not in inner city Manchester or Liverpool .

pooka · 01/03/2009 17:29

Makes me think of the old woman In Adrian Mole - the couple were Bert (who ate beetroot sandwiches) and Queenie, who wore too much lipstick.

aGalChangedHerName · 01/03/2009 17:30

Erm that was my families dogs name.

mrsruffallo · 01/03/2009 17:32

Suwoo

Had an Aunty Queenie. She hated it.
How about (her sisters names) Gladys, Florrie (florence), Doris,Margaret or Iris if you like old lady names

Wolfblass · 01/03/2009 18:31

Now i absolutley love it - have known three people with this name and they were all lovely!

MadameCastafiore · 01/03/2009 18:32

Was it you who asked about Pearly too?

You could have Pearly and Queenie - both shouted in very nasal estuary english in the middle of Morrisons or Asda!

Nancy66 · 01/03/2009 18:39

Not keen on it.
It was the 'chavvy' name of the day in the 20s, 30s and 40s.

I think it's the sort of name you'd be embarrassed by as an adult. Cute for a kid but not very sophisticated.

Guadalupe · 01/03/2009 18:43

There were a lot of Queenie's in Lena Kennedy novels I think.

I'm not very fond of it I must say.
