Mum and Dad names

... as opposed to the Gran/Grandpa chic that seems to be all the rage at the moment. We've decided on Anna for out little one in utero but had we been expecting a boy, we toyed with names like John, Mark, Andrew etc, that possibly sound moderately passé rather than completely archaic. I'm 20 and find there's something both cool and comforting simultaneously about names that were still in - but just starting to drift out of - fashion when I was at school. I'm thinking Nicole, Karen, Nigel (can't abide this one but it's a good example!) etc etc.

So, just for fun. What Mum/Dad names do we like/can we think of etc.

Kerry, Derek, Mark, Alan, Keith, Donna, Viv, Craig, Ian, Sharon, Rosanne, Angela, Alison, Susan, Lyndsay...

In other words all the names of my friends at school! I was thinking about the fad for Granny names the other day and wondering whether when he wheels of time turn all our kids will want to call their kids 'Angela' and 'Sharon' and whether we will all be shrieking 'No!!!! That's an old fashioned name!!!!

Anyoe who is pg just now should seriously consider these names because when their dc is 20 everyone will think that he/she has he coolest name ever!

Lol @ trevor ... can you imagine a baby Trevor..thats made me laugh .. step away from the vodka random

lolianja · 20/02/2009 22:27

Lots of suggestions, loving it guys! Goodness me, showing my age (or lack thereof) when I confess that a few of these names scream more of a granny/grandad vibe than a mum/dad one.

I know DOZENS of Geoffreys my age. Dozens. As mentioned above it's always struck me as one of those names I could never imagine peering into crib and cooing at an infant.

The idea of a baby Trevor though - hilarious!
