Tristan, Reuben or Oscar?

DP and I can't decide.

Normally lovely MIL made retching noises at Tristan and FIL (also normally lovely) said 'So you've saved enough for it to go to private school then?'

Thoughts on any of the above please?

Oh, Middle names will be Henry Charles regardless of first name choice.

I prefer Reuben and Oscar, but do quite like Tristan (just makes me think of All Creatures Great and Small)

Blu · 12/02/2009 16:36

'Tristan Henry' is a tongue twister.

Reuben or Oscar.

And don't discuss with ILs or any RL people!

conniedescending · 12/02/2009 16:38

Oscar, Tristan, Reuben in that order - lovely names!

janeite · 12/02/2009 16:39

I love Oscar but now I've seen Tristan written down I quite like it. Don't like Reuben much.

daisy5 · 12/02/2009 16:39

Rueben isn't a name I hear a lot. And it's really nice. Tristan I find an odd one.

wheesht · 12/02/2009 16:40

Love love love Reuben - that was my name for a boy. Didn't have one though

Oscar is slowly growing on me but Tristan still has a long way to go...

DebInAustria · 12/02/2009 16:42

ds2 is tristan so i vote for that

tootiredtothink · 12/02/2009 16:42

Tristan (really like), Oscar then Reuben.

MrsSchmaltzyMerryHenry · 12/02/2009 16:42

Don't call him Reuben. Just don't. It's an awful, awful name.

(alright, I'll come clean: I just don't want my DSs name to become too common! - great spelling, too!)

wheesht · 12/02/2009 16:43

MrsSchmaltz has EXCEPTIONALLY good taste!

jellybeans · 12/02/2009 16:47

Oscar

MrsSchmaltzyMerryHenry · 12/02/2009 16:54

(aww, shucks)

dizzyTHETARTANARMYdixies · 12/02/2009 16:55

I feel exactly the same as MrsSchmaltzy except I had 3 DDs!!!

Jojay · 12/02/2009 17:04

Tristan - classy and less common than the other too (and that's common as in less frequently heard, not the other sort )

Jojay · 12/02/2009 17:04

TWO

MrsSchmaltzyMerryHenry · 12/02/2009 17:17

It's all about association, isn't it? None of the Tristans I've ever known could possibly be described as 'classy' so I don't see the name that way. Reubens on the other hand...I know a particularly excellent Reuben who's just over 2...

bratnav · 12/02/2009 17:21

Hmm, I am confused and can't decide, you are right though, no more discussion with anyone in RL about names, it is just asking for trouble

Oscar Henry Charles sounds much nicer than the other combinations. Sounds all poetic and romantic- Oscar Wilde!

BrownSuga · 12/02/2009 17:52

A vote for Oscar.

stepfordwife · 12/02/2009 17:53

reuben
like oscar too
not so keen on tristan

lljkk · 12/02/2009 17:55

Tristan? Classy? I have never heard it described that way.
I own one, btw, so that is not a snipe!
Also, Mine is a thick-spoken 4yo thug, alas. Big softie when you get to know him, though.
The other Tristans we have known have been

  • short, charming and weasely;
  • tall, camp and flamboyent
  • rugged outdoorsey

So, no real pattern there! I don't like Oscar or Reuben at all, personally.

LaDiDaDi · 12/02/2009 17:56

Oscar goes best with your middle name choices imo.

ThumbLoveWitch · 12/02/2009 17:57

Tristan.

Timeisablindguide · 12/02/2009 17:59

Know of absolutely tons of Reubens and Oscars so Tristan would be a less common option
