I liked this if baby turned out to be a boy but recently heard of a wee girl with the name.
What is the mn opinion!
Don't want to give a boy a girls name iyswim!
This is dc 4 and the name sounds nice with the other dcs names.

boy definatly.
problem with it is, if a girl is born with little hair ppl will assume she is a boy with a name like that.
which would be irritating! happened to a friend of mine, even tho she dressed her daughter head to toe in pink!

TrillianAstra · 02/02/2009 12:12

Boy

Mummyfor3 · 02/02/2009 12:13

Boy, defo!

CarryOnUpTheLiffey · 02/02/2009 16:12

Neither, it's just too like Alice imo. If you say Alice in a Kerry accent it would be Ellis anyway. not a big deal if you don't live in Kerry I know.

sobloodystupid · 02/02/2009 16:54

I would use it for either. I had a lovely professor whose surname was Ellis, also Ellis Bell was Emily Bronte's pseudonym...

piscesmoon · 02/02/2009 16:59

Boy

blametheparents · 02/02/2009 17:01

there is a girl in DS's year at school called Ellis. she is 8 yo

CantSleepWontSleep · 02/02/2009 17:08

Boy definitely.

islandofsodor · 02/02/2009 17:16

Lol Carryonupthe Liffy.

My great aunt's name was Alice Ellis
My grandmother was Ellen Ellis

scotagm · 02/02/2009 19:32

My grandad was called Ellis. It's a boys name.

Karamazov · 02/02/2009 19:44

Traditionally, I believe Ellis to be a a boy's name. I have only ever taught males called Ellis.

However, there are plenty of similar female names - Elise, Elissa, Eloise, Alice....

TheRedQueen · 02/02/2009 19:58

I only know one Ellis and she's a girl. I had never heard the name before she was given it, and it never struck me that it might actually be a boys' name ....!

ChucklesMcMummy · 03/02/2009 08:24

Hi lollipopz

I used to be a primary school teacher and taught 2 Ellis', both boys. Never came across it as a girls name. I also know a lovely young man called Ellis so it has a good vibe for me x

herbaceous · 03/02/2009 10:40

I know one boy and one girl Ellis. The boy was born first, and the parents were rather put out when their friends named their daughter Ellis too. They're gorgeous, though, and it suits them both.

jellybeans · 03/02/2009 15:05

boy

I have a boy Ellis
and only know boy's with that name

have only ever come accross one girl named Ellis, yrs ago @ playgroup

prefer Ella for a girl TBH (my girls choice, when preggers with Ellis! ) or Elyssia

bessie26 · 03/02/2009 16:48

I know a beautiful little girl named Ellis, but think it's ok for boys as well

lunamoon2 · 03/02/2009 18:02

Probably more for a boy, but would suit either really.

LoveMyLapTop · 03/02/2009 18:04

Def a boys name
A welsh one at that

RachieB · 03/02/2009 19:18

welsh spelling is Elis
though I AM welsh, and use the Ellis form as i prefer the look of it lol

boccadellaverita · 03/02/2009 19:23

I don't like it because it's a surname used as a first name for a boy. I'd like it even less if it were used for a girl.

dizzydixies · 03/02/2009 19:26

I have known both a grown man and a young girl with the name Ellis

I loved it on both of them and don't think it matters at all

two of my girls have very girly names and my DD3 has a name more associated with a boy but it doesnt' matter

your dc will make the name their own regardless of male or female

RachieB · 03/02/2009 19:28

lol but James,Thomas,Evan(s) etc are all surnames too

ohdearwhatamess · 03/02/2009 19:33

Boy
