Anna

Am now seriously considering this as a first name for dd. DP's surname is Holmes. DP thinks it is possibly a little plain and does not go so well with the one syllable surname. He likes Amelie best. Thanks for any thoughts.

Anna is beautiful

artichokes · 09/01/2009 19:33

A gorgeous classic name.

FeelingLucky · 09/01/2009 19:34

Love it, but I'm biased

All the Annas I know are lovely. It's a really beautiful name. That said, I do kind of agree with your DP. DD has a similarly simple first name with a one-syllable surname, and I do have mild regrets that we didn't opt for a longer version of her name (which could have been shortened as a nickname).

seeker · 09/01/2009 19:36

Lovely name - but make sure it goes with your last name as well. No reason why she should just have your dp's name!

Wheelybug · 09/01/2009 19:36

lovely - but biased too.

RachePache · 09/01/2009 19:37

Beautiful and much less likely to date than Amelie.

mrsdisorganised · 09/01/2009 19:38

I have one so therefore I am biased...love it!

mamalovesmojitos · 09/01/2009 19:40

gorgeous.

Ledodgy · 09/01/2009 19:44

It's a lovely name.

Tigerschick · 09/01/2009 19:45

Love it, too.

wheresthehamster · 09/01/2009 19:46

I think Anna is the only name on the baby threads that gets 100% approval!

I have an Anna with a one syllable surname. Go for it

lljkk · 09/01/2009 19:46

I don't like Amelie, it just doesn't have any appeal for me. But Anna is wonderful (and I don't have one, either).

I love it, it was going to be my dd's name but got 2 dss instead!

LiffeyOink · 09/01/2009 20:04

Annabel Holmes sounds better, but Anna is lovely. I prefer Anna to Amelie, but a 3 syllable name works better with Holmes.

troutpout · 09/01/2009 20:07

love it...much more than amelie too

lucasnorth · 09/01/2009 20:23

No, not Annabel or Amelie. Too fluffy-feminine - what if she turns out to be a tom-boy?
Anna is lovely, without the pink fluffy baggage of the longer names.

Mung · 09/01/2009 20:25

I like it. Its a classic name. Not a fan of Amelie myself.

NormaJeanBaker · 09/01/2009 20:26

Anna love it and Annie is sweet for short. And classic/timeless. Go for it.

pigletpants · 09/01/2009 20:29

Beautiful name.

KatB · 09/01/2009 21:55

My definite name for future DD in planning

I totally love it. My DD has a friend called Anna and she's beautiful and sweet.
