It's lovely in a boring way if that makes sense. It makes a lovely middle name. Jmo.

belgo · 31/12/2008 13:26

lovely name.

MrsSeanBean · 31/12/2008 13:28

I don't like it. I don't know why, there's nothing 'wrong' with it. It's just personal taste.

stillstanding · 31/12/2008 13:28

Lovely name. As Liffey says a little boring in the sense that it is common but often the best names are!

StealthPoHoHoHo · 31/12/2008 13:29

Am happy with lovely in a boring way. DS's name is a bit unusual (although it is a 'real' name) so anything slightly odd might look like we're trying too hard. It's the only name we both like. Just wanted to check that it's not the name of a killer granny in some TV show that everyone but us watches!

My dd is called Alice and it is always commented on (in a nice way) .

walkingprimrose · 31/12/2008 13:31

I LOVE this simple, beautiful, classic name.

If DS had been a DD he would have been Alice. I sometimes want to add it as an extra middle name for my DD, as I can't bear the thought that I'll never use it! (I won't be having any more babies unless I come into some serious money).

eandh · 31/12/2008 13:31

its dd2's middle name (after dh grandma)

ComeWhineWithMe · 31/12/2008 13:31

Plus I don't know any other little girl alice's around here .

wheresthehamster · 31/12/2008 13:31

I LOVE it!

Dd1 is Alice and in 17 years have only come across a few. So traditional but not popular.

No negatives. Has had references to Alice Springs and something that Christopher Robin went down with, but can't think of anything else!

StealthPoHoHoHo · 31/12/2008 13:32

eandh, she doesn't star as a killer in a popular TV show does she?
Thanks everyone - I'm happy with that, and I know not everyone will like it.

Love it, DS would have been Alice if he was a girl.

AndATigerschickInAPearTree · 31/12/2008 13:35

I love Alice - It's on our short list if we were to have a DD2.

Wheresthehamster - I love that song ... "They're changing guard at Buckingham Palace;
Christopher Robin went down with Alice; They looked for the King but nobody came;
'Well, God take care of him, just the same';
Said Alice"

ComeWhineWithMe · 31/12/2008 13:36

Be careful though some smart alec will find it funny to mention the rude Alice song to you .

StealthPoHoHoHo · 31/12/2008 13:36

Goodness me,. I am changing my mind now - so many of you commoners seem to be using it [sniffs]

JustKeepSingingCarols · 31/12/2008 13:37

I love it - my niece's name, but would have had it for a poss for us if not.

There is just that song:
Alice, Alice, who the f* is Alice?!

But it's an old song now so will be even older by the time she's here!

StealthPoHoHoHo · 31/12/2008 13:37

Thanks Comewhinewithme, that's the kind of thing I needed reminding of
The Who the f is alice? one?
Think I can cope with that, as long as there isn't another one!

findtheriver · 31/12/2008 13:38

Beautiful, classy, won't go in or out of fashion.... go for it!

ComeWhineWithMe · 31/12/2008 13:39

Thats it I think .TBH I have only had it mentioned to me twice and she is 7 now .

wheresthehamster · 31/12/2008 13:43

There's the children's song - Alice the camel. But it's very benign

I've always loved the Changing the Guard song as well! It was only a few years ago that I realised that Alice was the nanny and not Christopher Robin's playmate as I always thought. The line about 'Alice is marrying one of the guards' had totally gone over my head!

purepurple · 31/12/2008 13:44

my DD is Alice and I love it, no negatives apart from my brother who sings the song about living next door to Alice (Alice, who the fuck is Alice?)
she even went to school as Alice in Wonderland on dress up day, she has blonde hair and blue eyes, so seemed the obvious choice

Ponders · 31/12/2008 13:47

I love Alice & would have used it like a shot but DH didn't, unfortunately

eandh · 31/12/2008 14:15

stealth - do you mean dh Nan (does she star as serial killer etc) nope she died 3 weeks ago (she had been poorly so in a way was a blessing and am glad that she knew dd2 for almost 2 years)

StealthPoHoHoHo · 31/12/2008 14:20

oh sorry eandh

OP posts:
eandh · 31/12/2008 14:27

She had a fab life was 95 and lived independetly until she was 93 (in an upstairs flat with no lift and did all her gardening, cooking etc) in fact I think she would have loved to star as a serial murder on tv

her and dd2 had a very special bond as dh nan was so deaf and dd2 doesnt speak much so they used to sit and look at books for hours together and then fall alseep on the sofa cuddled up (she lived with pil's for last couple of years and mil looks after the dd's one day a week for me) she was so proud when we told her what dd2 middle name was going to be
