Have finally convinced DH to change her name and want to do it asap so I can move on and worry about other things! Both of us like either name, Imogen is my first choice (but our surname starts with an 'm'and ends in 'n' therefore bit of a mouthful) and Ellen is his first choice but there are problems as we live in a place were people drop 'h' therefore potential Helen / Ellen confusion.

I like Ellen, and the Ellen I know nobody calls Ellie.
Like Stillenacht, Imogen seems a bit stuck up / snooty to me, although I am not sure why and am sure a nice Imogen would wipe out the assumption

pania · 22/12/2008 19:20

I like them both but if your surname starts with an M then I think Ellen works better.

E.g. Imogen Mason
Imogen Marsden

Ellen Mason
Ellen Marsden

MrsMattie · 22/12/2008 19:23

They're both lovely names. I think I prefer Ellen by a whisker, but Imogen is very pretty, too.

Ronaldinhio · 22/12/2008 19:23

Ellen

Every Ellen I have ever met looks like a flower and has the heart of a lion
They are without exception excellent human beings

Ellen

IMogen

love love that name!

TooMuchMakkaPakka · 22/12/2008 20:08

DD is three months tomorrow. I have wanted to change her name for the last two months. Finally convinced DH to agree. I would prefer to change it to Imogen (although worried that it may sound posh now , but seeing as he really would rather keep it how it is (long story) Ellen is a good compromise as he does prefer this name. What would you do? Go for your number 1 name, or, given that he is being quite magnamous kind in agreeing to the change, go for Ellen (also very nice name imo). We could spend weeks arguing the toss but I don't think i will regret either choice as I love them both and prefer both to the name she currently has. DH wants me to do it asap so we can stop talking about names!

both are nice, I would go for Imogen

Rozebud · 22/12/2008 20:12

Don't let my - and other's - comment re Imogen being posh put you off. I do think it is pretty... growing on me even now. I would push for the name you really want... otherwise you might just wish you'd gone the whole hog. Good luck, hope you win DH round.

stillenacht · 22/12/2008 20:14

Go for it - whatever you want to do - i am still not 100% on my DS2's name and he is 5!

TheFalconInThePearTree · 22/12/2008 20:16

Imogen.

Imogen

2pt4WiseMen · 22/12/2008 20:27

I dont think it really matters which name any of us prefer... you are the one that is so determined to change her name that you've convinced your DP, so I'm thinking that you might regret it if you only change it to something else that is a bit of a compromise?

If its worth spending 2 months convincing your DP to change it then is it not worth holding out for the name you actually want??

Tell your DP that you'll never be truly satisfied unless its Imogen and does he really want to risk you being in the same situation again in another 3 months time...

(FWIW I prefer Imogen too!)

imogen!

sammysamsam · 22/12/2008 20:53

Imogen, it's a nice name. has a kinda 'soft' sound to it..agree with many above, there are one too many 'ella's ellies' ellwotsits' floating about. though ella/ ellen is equally nice but over subscribed in the current younger generation-i feel. let us know which one you opt for in the end!

ChristmasFairySantAsSLut · 22/12/2008 20:54

I just lurve Imogen....and know a gorgeous little Babygirl called Imogen....
I have, in the 13 years I lived here only met 2 Imogens and well, there is that BB girl by that name...but I think it's a lovely, not overused name

Niecie · 22/12/2008 20:57

Imogen is one of my favourites so it gets my vote.

slackrunner · 22/12/2008 21:00

Ellen.

Imogen makes me think of a dodgy old Jilly Cooper novel (sorry!).
