I like the name Claire but am wondering if it's too popular. Any other ideas?

Clara?

Claire not popular anymore, was popular in 70's, you'd be very retro to use Claire.

Elodie

I don't know a Claire under thirty, so not sure what you mean by popular.

Bumblelion · 19/09/2008 17:55

I love Elodie, my son was going to be that if he was a girl. Although I went on to have another girl, I could not use Elodie because that was his 'female' name, the same way that I could not use my DD1's 'male' name for my first born son.

I adore Pascale.
It's on my list but we're not french so not sure if we'd get away with it.
Also Claudie / Claudine perhaps.
However, I do love Claire. I know a new baby called Claire actually and thought that was quite unusual as I don't know of any at school / nursery at the moment.

Esme
Amelie

shubiedoo · 19/09/2008 18:29

Amelie is very pretty, love that one. I only know one Claire here, at ds2's library group. Maybe I just think it's popular because I'm tired of having it as my choice for a girl... if I'd had girls the first two times one of them would have been Claire!
I love Colette, but that's dh's cousin whom no one likes...

I have always thought Claudine a lovely name

Don't know how popular it is in France, though

brimfull · 19/09/2008 20:02

I love the name Claire

isn't popular for little girls at the moment is it?

Anna8888 · 19/09/2008 20:03

Claudine, Yvette, Sylvie, Mireille, Simone, Dominique, Pascale, Colette are all unacceptably deeply retro - think children born in 1930s/40s.

NoblesseOblige · 19/09/2008 20:03

i like Camille

my sister is Clare and she is 21. i know one other Clare younger than her (so not an "old" name) and really like it.

were my sis not named it I would call a dd Clare

CoolYourJets · 19/09/2008 20:04

Anna8888 · 19/09/2008 20:05

My niece (4) is called Lucie. It's sweet and very popular right now.

notnowbernard · 19/09/2008 20:07

LOVE LOVE LOVE Sylvie - is gorgeous!

Went to school with a Pascale - think that is very sweet too

Colette - wasn't she a well-known French writer? A bit risque?

expatinscotland · 19/09/2008 20:07

My mother's mother was French.

My mama is called Martine and her sister is Lucie.

notnowbernard · 19/09/2008 20:08

I like Martine as well

Anna8888 · 19/09/2008 20:09

My MOL (b. 1938) is called Martine. It is a vile name. Please please please don't use it on some innocent baby
