I like the name Claire but am wondering if it's too popular. Any other ideas?

Well, this Martine was born in 1941, but she's not vile. I think the name was actually chosen because Mama's papa was Mexican-American and they all spoke Spanish and French in the home so they needed something that would work in both languages.

My papa usually calls her Martina in Spanish because that is his native language but she doesn't mind.

We call her Mamacita when we want to wind her up .

It was fine back then but it is no longer fine.

My grandmother was called Brenda. She was a lovely, lovely woman. But I would never call, or recommend anyone do anything but avoid, the name Brenda today.

I knew a girl called Yvette in Strasbourg and she was such a cow.

Put me off the name forever, the man-scamming little trollop she was.

expatinscotland · 19/09/2008 20:17

the Spanish name Belen (can't do accents on this laptop) sparks similar reaction in me.

i really like florence pronounced the french way.

Anna8888 · 19/09/2008 20:24

I don't know many young Carolines here. There are certainly quite a few in my generation and above.

Anna8888 · 19/09/2008 20:25

Florence is quite old fashioned too, these days.

notnowbernard · 19/09/2008 20:26

Caroline not popular atm in England either... think it's a pretty name (esp French pronounciation)
