Scottish Names

I'm trying to think positive atm - had an amnio last week and feeling a bit wobbly just now dwelling on things, so I thought this might take my mind off it for a bit.

We don't know yet if it's a boy or a girl but we want a Scottish name for this baby, but it can't begin or end with 'N' as it won't go with our surname.

We quite like Kyle for a boy but no real ideas for a girl - I have always like Mhairi but it will never be pronounced properly (Vahri) and will be a bugger teaching her to spell!

Any ideas?

I have an Eilidh and nobody can spell/say it properly. Tbh it doesn't bother me.

If DS2 had been a girl Mhairi was my top choice for a name. DH liked Elspeth.

Senga is the Glasgow name that springs to the front of my mind. I expect there arent too many babies called that these days.

I like Elidh and Mhairi, but I think if you arent in scotland people wont pronounce it right, even within Scotland a lot of people get Mhairi wrong.

fin54 - double-barrelled names like that 8are more common within the catholic community in Glasgow. Don't know aobut catholic communities elsewhere. Would never have understood it until I had been "exposed" to so many such names, both via my dh's family and also at work (where you can* tell waht religion people are as they rell you what football team they support )

And I am normally blind to such things: I was 30 before I found out that you could make an educated guess that someone was Jewish by their surname

fin54 - not really rediculous. pretty is right, the names on the list are relatively common in Glasgow.

It's like once upon a time the north Highland/island, the custom was to call girl children a man's name with "ina" at the end, so you could usually surmise a person called, say, Donaldina, Kennethina (yes really, I have great aunts called that) were from Sutherland or somewhere. names can be regional as well as "national" if you like.

Being Scottish and NOT Catholic and having a son named Kevin just reminds me why I hate the politics of Glasgow.
Does it really matter what religion anyone is, I also have a brother~in~law who is catholic and supports glasgow rangers.

Thanks for al the suggestions, there's a few there I like. I've already got a Rhona and a Ross. We live in Scotland, so for the most part, pronunciation shouldn't be that much of a problem.
