I am not saying I don't like these names...but some names get too popular and then they start to smell a bit and seem naff

For girls:

Jade
Ruby? It's the second most popular girl naem nowadays
Aimee
Anything-Mae

For boys:

Rhys
Jayden
Logan

Haven't heard lately of any babies named Margaret, Barbara, Felicity - has anyone else? Scott, Greg, Matthew, Debra and Lisa were the big names when I was at school. I remember thinking a friend's choice of Baxter for her DS's name in '89 was radical and outrageous, but now consider it quite funky. And yes, Kerry Katona has not done those names given to her children any favours - my dc had one of the names before she devalued it be choosing it, and I must admit, my heart sank when she announced her choice.

pgwithnumber3 · 29/07/2008 22:24

Matthew is very popular now, Scott I think will come back soon, have heard it a couple of times recently and good solid name. I know of a Barbara who is 7 but the less said about that family the better.

I like Heidi which Kerry Katona has, Max is a nice name as well. What are her other 2 called Molly and ? They are all nice names anyhow. Wouldn't worry KiwiKat.

Loriycs · 29/07/2008 22:25

felicity is back in the hit parade, but not too used (yet)

Loriycs · 29/07/2008 22:25

For some reason Molly looks better written Mollie??????????

Dottydot · 29/07/2008 22:26

Well I happen to think that Traceys are now seen as being cool, successful women in their late 30's - early 40's who are brilliant and fantastic...

CuckooClockWiseGuy · 29/07/2008 22:27

I know a baby Gregory and a baby Margaret (Margot).

KerryKatona's children have normal names apart from Lily-Sue, and it's the car-crash hyphenation that I don't like. That's two names. Lilian Susie would have been more my cup of tea!

Loriycs · 29/07/2008 22:27

more early to late 40's

Quattrocento · 29/07/2008 22:28

My money is on LadyT's name being Gail

Hulababy · 29/07/2008 22:28

Loriycs - I agree And I still think it is a very pretty name, regardless if it is getting popular now. I know both young and old with the name and it seems not to date at all TBH.

TBH I think I prefer most names with the ie ending, than a y. Seems a bit softer somehow.

AbbeyA · 29/07/2008 22:36

I think the names that will quickly date are the ones that dated last time round:
Ruby, Pearl, Ivy, Elsie,Edith, Violet and others from 1920's.

Why is the name Jayden (any version) produce such a strong reaction on this forum?

It seems to be held up as the epitome of chavvy nastiness. Yep I do have a Jaidon but I didnt choose his name. He came ready named and I wouldnt dream of changing it.

Its a very old hebrew name and it means 'God has heard', 'God has listened'. Certainly true in our case.

Whilst waiting to adopt our little man I came across quite a few unusual names and Jaidon certainly wasnt the worst of them.

Rancid
How rude.

ButterflyMcQueen · 29/07/2008 22:42

reethi96 · 29/07/2008 22:42

I know 7 mums at school all called Sarah - all about the same age (born early 70s) I can't keep them all straight!

Sarah is such a pretty name and you don't hear many little girls called that now

chegirl · 29/07/2008 22:53

Thank you reethie! That must be a first on MN!

Loriycs · 29/07/2008 22:55

Sarah seems to have returned as Saira in recent years
