I am not saying I don't like these names...but some names get too popular and then they start to smell a bit and seem naff

For girls:

Jade
Ruby? It's the second most popular girl naem nowadays
Aimee
Anything-Mae

For boys:

Rhys
Jayden

Ava. I just didn't realise... you don't, do you, when you have your first? You're not hanging round playgrounds and soft centres; you are innocent of the gathering storm clouds of the latest trend.

(My name has also been mentioned already on this thread, btw. Too ashamed to own up.)

MsDemeanor · 29/07/2008 23:13

of to bed so I'll put you out of your misery - ta da! 45

Go on, post your contemporaries and let MN guess your age!

MsDemeanor · 29/07/2008 23:14

Can't remember school discos...but Uni was all heard it through the grapevine, lady in red and tainted love!

Hester, my name has also been mentioned and I feel strangely ashamed to shout out in my own defence!!

hester · 29/07/2008 23:16

I'm one year younger than you, MsD, and I can tell you what it was at school discos: Hi Ho Bloody Silver Lining, Nights in Frickin White Satin, and my absolute least favourite - House of the Rising Sun.

French kissing to those was enough to put me off heterosexuality for life.

Loriycs · 29/07/2008 23:16

Michelle, Karen, Lisa, Julie and yes Sharon and Tracey... lots of all of them. For boys, Steven (loads)Gary, Darren, Paul, michael. Popular school disco song to smootch to was George Michaels careless Whisper. Will answer 2moro, off to bed know, Night all xx

pgwithnumber3 · 29/07/2008 23:26

Most popular school disco song was that awful one by Mick and Pat Sharpe "Let's All Chant" - can remember it now. Woo Woo Let's All Chant, Woo Woo Let's All Chant - wearing rara skirts, over the knee socks and lace up patent leather shoes with perm frozed with Insette and Ice Pink Rimmel lipstick. Holy cow.

hifi · 29/07/2008 23:54

my dad went ballistic he was from one of the worst estates, not bad when he lived there.when i brought anyone home he would literally make them quiver.

thornrose · 29/07/2008 23:56

I guess our dads knew what was on the minds of those bad boys!

hifi · 29/07/2008 23:58

exactly.he always said "why dont you go out with boy from 4 bed + estate?"still like a bit of rough.

thornrose · 30/07/2008 00:07

I still have a sneaky attraction but don't "go there" anymore.

AbbeyA · 30/07/2008 07:34

I don't think Ruby is a classic, the only ones I know are old ladies or under 5 yrs.

OrmIrian · 30/07/2008 07:44

Isn't it funny how we just accept adult's names for what they are. I know a few Sharons and Traceys and don't even give it a second thought. It's only children's names that get people exercised.

Stacy? Seems to be quite common now.

Basically all the mad celeb names, the poor kids will be changing their names I reckon.

mamadiva · 30/07/2008 07:55

I was going to be called Kevin as my mum thought I was a boy until I was born. How nice of her?

But happily she called me Stacy which I think is going downhill now am ashamed of it now. Is chavtastic now!
