TTC third baby. Hoping for (another) girl. My other 2 girls have slightly unusual but pretty names and need something that 'goes' (so am not considering things like Rachel, Anna, Chloe etc) pretty as they may be. What do you think......or are Topaz and Wallis a stretch too far? My DH also likes Cameron (for a girl) - he wanted it for DH1 and 2, but I didn't go for it.

Lovely?

i know a woman called Topaz and it's a very nice name, imo. it's not done her any harm having an unusual name so far as i can see, quite the opposite in fact.

frazzledoldbag34 · 28/07/2008 16:40

Thanks. That's nice to hear that being called Topaz hasn't blighted her life in any way. Maybe I'll keep it on my list after all.

Am liking Felicity now too though.

Bit more mainstream I suppose than some of my other suggestions.

It's unusual all right but I think it's quite pretty. Wallis I'd be less keen on, for me it's just not that feminine.

wheresthehamster · 28/07/2008 16:46

Margot - yes. Margeux - no.

Sybil - too Fawlty Towers

Sylvia - yes

Walnutshell · 28/07/2008 17:02

Pascale is rather nice. Yes, you may go ahead with that one

nooka · 28/07/2008 17:10

I like Margot and Felicity. Are there no Scottish girls names that you like, and are unusual?

nooka · 28/07/2008 17:11

Prefer Emmeline to Emerald.

Dragonbutter · 28/07/2008 17:17

Scottish names are so restrictive.
I insisted on a scottish name for DS1. Can't for the life of me think why it was so important to me.
Second time around I broadened my horizons though, we don't even live there anymore.
I like your Wallis. I'm not convinced on Topaz.
Cameron for a girl is nice. Also Innes, is generally a boys name but means island, so there's no reason why you can't use it for a girl (Inez is a girls name after all).

Hulababy · 28/07/2008 17:35

Sorry, not keen on Wallis, Topaz or Cameron.

Collision · 28/07/2008 17:44

What about Coral? Little friend of ds2 has this name and it has grown on me!

or Iona or Pia or Crystal or Evangeline or (I do like Felicity - Flick or Fliss for short) or Nancy.....

wheresthehamster · 28/07/2008 17:45

Yes I like Coral. Or Coralie.

Heather is scottish-ish.

allgonebellyup · 28/07/2008 17:48

Sylvie??

Wouldn't the baby have to be born around Easter time to be called Pascale? I really like Margot. I'm not keen on any of the op names though. What about Madeleine or Blythe?

Name62 · 28/07/2008 17:56

I don't go for Topaz. I like Wallis as in that woman who ran off with the king..

Lovely and underused.

I like Sybil as well. Very pretty.

Every Rachel I have known I have found some reason to dislike.

Name62 · 28/07/2008 17:58

I know a little boy called Pascal. Very sweet. Coral, sorry is hideous.

Cameron is Ok as in Cameron Diaz.

Also I do like Kitty, actually.
And Arabella.

But are there not quite a few of them around now?
Also (having looked through my lists from last time a bit) I like

Florence
Flora
Amity
Emery
Claudie / Claudia

Any thoughts on those? Better or worse than Topaz?

OP posts:
stumpywombat · 28/07/2008 20:20

Florence is sweet, so is Claudie/a. Not sure about Amity (Amityville?) and Emery (Emery board?, also sounds more like a boy's name.)

Other ideas ... Thea, Althea, Elspeth, Nairna (v Scottish that one!)...

brimfull · 28/07/2008 20:26

Kitty
Dixie
Catya

CuckooClockWise · 28/07/2008 20:31

Topaz, q nice, I could really warm to that one. wallis ugly and a frumpy clothes shop (ok I shop there, but still!).

nervousal · 28/07/2008 20:32

Catya's a lovely name. I like Kasia too - polish for Kate - pronounced Kasha.

Lilymaid · 28/07/2008 20:38

Wallis Simpson - not a very nice lady. Topaz - I think the eccentric stepmother in I Capture the Castle had that name - as did an Avon scent of many years ago.

chipmonkey · 28/07/2008 21:29

What if it's a boy?
