TTC third baby. Hoping for (another) girl. My other 2 girls have slightly unusual but pretty names and need something that 'goes' (so am not considering things like Rachel, Anna, Chloe etc) pretty as they may be. What do you think......or are Topaz and Wallis a stretch too far? My DH also likes Cameron (for a girl) - he wanted it for DH1 and 2, but I didn't go for it.

If you liked Topaz, how about Emerald?

I love love this name

MsDemeanor · 28/07/2008 16:10

Noooooo! Not Wallace! That's a man's name. As is Wallace & Gromit!

Pearl is quite nice. If you are into 30s socialites, what about Emerald? Zelda? Sybil? Nina? Sadie?

berolina · 28/07/2008 16:11

Felicity is beautiful.

beanybean · 28/07/2008 16:12

Sorry but doesn't Felicity get changed to Facility when children are being cruel?!

How about Talia - that was on out short list for our LO.

DH would go for Ailsa and Isla. We went through all those names before - Eilidh, Isla, Morven (?!) etc for DD2 but everyone I know seems to be using them at the mo.
They are pretty tho but not for me.

I thing Cameron for a girl is nice. but then I'm wierd.

I do think topaz and Wallis are awful. sorry.

Sadly, mine have v boring names, and my DD is called Evie - and as I named her it... so did the rest of the damn world. But she is an Evelyn, so at least she can lengthen it.

What about old worldy names - Rose, Pansy ? Hyacinth (!!! )

MsDemeanor · 28/07/2008 16:14

Felicity is Fliss, surely? NOthing wrong with that. Pretty name I think, but that probably just means it is getting fashionable. (love reference I read to middle classes choosing names with the uniformity and conformity of a shoal of fish changing direction - so true!)
Margot quite good and also 30s name. (Margot Asquith)

hifi · 28/07/2008 16:15

ooh wheres our topaz? said in a yorkshire accent, yuk.

VintageGardenia · 28/07/2008 16:15

I don't know if you've read I Capture the Castle but Topaz was a superb character in it. I think it was published in the 40s.

MsDemeanor · 28/07/2008 16:16

Oops Margot Asquith more of an Edwardian really.

frazzledoldbag34 · 28/07/2008 16:17

Sigourney??? uh no
gross
Not keen on Talia or Emerald I'm afraid.

BUT I am liking Sybil (hmmmmmmm - thinking about that one).
Know someone who recently had a Sadie - quite like that but not knicking 'her' name. She'd have my guts for garters!
Although wasn't there a tv prog called Sybil with that annoying blonde woman???

Sylvia?

frazzledoldbag34 · 28/07/2008 16:21

Actually now you mention it I have read I capture the Castle. Don't remember as it was ages ago but maybe that's where my Topaz thing has come from??? Perhaps been lurking around in my subconcious waiting for the next lot of pregnancy hormones to kick in?

Margot seems to be going down well though... hope it's not going to be a boy!

Too much pink and stuff in this house for a boy.

Astrophe · 28/07/2008 16:22

they are both really awful, sorry. (hey, you did ask)

frazzledoldbag34 · 28/07/2008 16:24

Actually am quite warming to Emerald.........could get called Em or Emmy for short?
Or is that too preposterous?

OP posts:
HonoriaGlossop · 28/07/2008 16:26

Exactly, frazzled - Emmie for short etc

How can you like Topaz and NOT like Emerald which is far prettier

VintageGardenia · 28/07/2008 16:35

Is it

Toe-paz

or

Top-az

?

CantSleepWontSleep · 28/07/2008 16:37

Definitely go for Felicity. This bump would have most likely been a Felicity if he had been a girl, so someone should definitely use it now that I can't!
