Terry?

Namechange because it’s possibly quite outing.

Is Terry due a revival as a boys name? It’s my son’s name and we haven’t met another under the age of about 50! He was named after his grandad, at the time I hated it but it’s grown on me, so under the guise of a name change I wondered what honest opinions are of the name.

Ummm given he's already called Terry I'm not sure really why you're asking, but no, it wouldn't make my shortlist.

GaaNeen · 10/08/2026 21:24

You gave your son a name you hate ? But it has grown on you ?
how odd ??

I like it! It's an unusual name (and I'd be looking for a diminutive)nickname for a baby, as it sounds quite grown up) for a baby, but I can imagine him starting school and not getting any hassle. He will be the only one probably, but it's not too outlandish. I know a Jerry and a Teddy - he fits in right alongside them!

Mcann..I could be so good for you.

Gowlett · 10/08/2026 21:31

I don’t hate it. It’s more popular for girls?
That might be Terri. Which I like enough.

Because I’m intrigued that’s all.

Because it was important to DH and I didn’t actually have a name I loved. So I went with it. But babies grow into their names so yes it grew on me.

My dad is about my favourite person in the entire universe and his name is Terry. He’s nearly 80. Despite how wonderful he is, I never even contemplated it as a name for my kids. I’m afraid I don’t think it’s due a revival any time soon.

Terry?
Lins77 · 10/08/2026 21:42

It's out of fashion, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It could make a comeback.

Makes me think of Waterloo Sunset - a very good thing.

Of course it’s grown on you, it’s the name of someone you love! Still a terrible name though

It’s my uncles name and I’ve always thought it was a rather ugly sounding name

I don't think it's ugly. It has quite a soft sound, to me.

BatshitIsTheOnlyExplanation · 10/08/2026 22:00

I've got a female colleague Terri and I somehow find the name quite jarring. Maybe because I was a teenager in the 80s in South London and Gary & Terry seemed to be everywhere.

upupandaway45 · 10/08/2026 22:00

I know a female Terri In her 30s and two males one 35 and the other is 7. It’s an ok name not something I’d use but I’ve heard a lot worse

grafittiartist · 10/08/2026 22:03

I liked the name Terri for DD. Didn’t use it but was on the list.
