If you heard the name Tatum, would you assume the person called that was female, male, or could go either way?

The only Tatum I know in real life is a woman

Adviceneededtonightplease · 06/08/2026 18:24

male

DaysIllRememberAllMyLife · 06/08/2026 18:24

Female. I know one in her 20s.

SwedishEdith · 06/08/2026 18:24

I'd assume, I think, female because of Tatum O'Neal but it's really not a nice name. I think of tantrum.

timoteigirl · 06/08/2026 19:59

Female because of Tatum O'Neal

Sounds VERY masculine to me! Probably because of Channing Tatum. I've never heard of Tatum O'Neal.

Oscar winning actress and ex-wife of John McEnroe.

tinytemper66 · 06/08/2026 21:17

Female - Tatum O’Neal.

Calliopespa · 07/08/2026 02:25

Female.

Sounds like a brand name for powdered potato mash.

Oscar winning actress and ex-wife of John McEnroe.

Thanks, never heard of her, I have heard of John McEnroe but only because my parents were into tennis in the 80/90's. I have no interest in tennis, dreadfully dull, he was probably the most entertaining thing about it!

I still think the look and sound of it is very masculine. I'd say it'd be like calling a girl Woody, James, Stevie. But I don't have the association of the oscar winner.

Dontevenlookatme · 07/08/2026 14:45

Tatum O’Neal, daughter of Ryan O’Neal. Will resonate with Love Story generation.

DramaAlpaca · 07/08/2026 14:49

Female, because of Tatum O'Neal.

I only heard of it being used as a male name recently and it sounded odd to me.

I've never liked it; it reminds me of 'tantrum'. I suspect it sounds slightly better in an American accent.

Svelty · 07/08/2026 14:54

Female because of the actress. Sounds a bit too much like derivatives of potato for my liking though.

FungiforFunGuy · 07/08/2026 15:01

Male. I was in school with a lad with that as a surname and that became his nickname.

ExtremeDecluttering · 07/08/2026 15:03

Female, Tatum O'Neal. Never heard it used as a male first name.

InQuiresandplaceswheretheysing · 07/08/2026 15:16

Male,but awful.

villamariavintrapp · 07/08/2026 15:18

To me it's a masculine sounding name, but I've heard of it being used by both males and females

PancakeCloud · 07/08/2026 15:19

unisex leaning to female. I don’t think it’s that unusual 🤷‍♀️

oldwhyno · 07/08/2026 15:25

Male or female it reminds me too much of Taint.

"Oooh, I've got a right itchy Tatum".

Palmtreesinthegarden · 07/08/2026 15:26

The only Tatums I know are male

(I'm going by your tone - many pp have mentioned her, which suggests it's a person one should have heard of)

paddleboardingmum · 07/08/2026 16:50

Female

Coconutter24 · 07/08/2026 16:53

I think of a male, it sounds masculine to me

Likeiloveyou · 07/08/2026 16:57

I don’t like it, sorry.

Really? How many do you know? I only ask because I've never heard of a man called Tatum.

Does not having an interest in tennis and never having heard of an actress I assume was popular when I was very young mean I don't have an interest in anything?! Crikey 😁I have many interests! I apologise to have not heard of this one woman that about 15 people on here have heard of. Can you list every single actress from every single decade that has won an award? 😉 Do you have any interests outside of tennis and oscar winning actresses of the 80's (70's? Or was it 90's)?
