It’s very old-fashioned. Surely, very few people say that anymore? I especially can’t imagine a younger person saying it.

I’ve never said it, and I’m not even sure where I’ve heard it, but it was what I instantly thought. And I’m only 33, so it would be my instant thought if one of my children’s friends had that name.

But you’re probably right that it’s not something the children’s friends would necessarily be aware of.

It’s another name for the Roman god Jupiter, not related to Jehovah. But being struck by lightning sounds about right!

As for whether young people would know it - I’m 31 and have known the phrase for at least 20 years. Young people do still read!
