Does Barney Bennett sound fine, or too cartoonish for a baby name?

Please help - C-section is tomorrow and my hormonal brain is having a wobble!

We love the name Barney (potentially Barnaby on birth certificate). The problem is our surname is Bennett. I can’t make my mind up whether it has a nice flow or sounds like a silly cartoon character. His middle name will be Charles (family name). Am I going insane? We have other names on our list but none we love as much as this.

both my kids and i have the same letter first and second name ( by coincidence rather than by design)

I really like Barnaby Bennett.

I often quite like alliterative names but not in this case. Max Murphy sounds cool, Barney Bennett sounds like some hapless poacher from an episode of Heartbeat.

I don't mind alliterative names, but am not keen on Barney - it means argument.

I love a lot of your other names: Jasper Bennet is very cool, and Arthur is adorable.

Im sorry but I really don't like Barney or Barnaby. It just reminds me of a big purple dinosaur. Agree with the others not Percy either.

I quite like Barnaby Bennett but then my daughter’s nickname + surname are also BB initials!

I like the name Barney, prefer Barnabas for Barnaby but that is just a preference.

What I don’t like is the combination with your surname.

I like Arthur, I know some kids who shorten it and some who don’t.(Teacher) So if you don’t use the abbreviation he will probably stay Arthur.

My daughter’s name was not alliterative - until it was abbreviated. Now the best that I can say about her name is that it would work very well for a child performer in a Victorian music hall!

Best laid plans, and all that. And actually her name suits her far better than the rather more dignified full name I chose. To be fair, as she was fourth child the name was chosen in a rush when I realised she was due the next day.

I think the opposite actually - Barnaby Bennett - all those B sounds! Too much…
PS don’t worry about the middle name - apart from the kid’s christening or marriage ceremony his full name will never be said out loud, so only think about what the first name and last name sound like together…

I know an adult Barney- he’s lovely, and his name really suits him!

I know an Arthur (in his 20s now) and he has never been called Art or Artie. I don't think it's a natural shortening at all (the th sound doesn't easily go to a t). AFAIK he is always known as Arthur if that helps at all.

As far as the BB goes – a friend whose surname is Barton dismissed Albert (nn Bertie) which she otherwise liked as it would be Bertie Barton, which she was not a fan of. But if you like Barnaby Bennett go for it.

Love Barnaby Bennett nn Barney. Go for it.

I have a Barnaby but he is nearly always known as Barney. He is now late 20s.
Great name for a little boy and a strapping chap. And I love the alliteration with Bennett. Also love Percy!

I came to say the same - and, as it is slightly more formal, it has less of a cartoon character feel. I think Barney does have that vibe a little more - maybe because of Fred and Barney in the Flintstones?

Go with Barnaby Bennett if you love it OP.

Barnaby Bennett is fine

It sounds brilliant for a 5 year old boy, but if he becomes a senior lawyer or corporate exec that name might elicit some smiles.
I do like it though and it is memorable.

Gordon is the obvious name of choice….. !
Barnaby Charles Bennet sounds very distinguished, definitely the name of an actor or author.
i think any of the names you have chosen would work.
