Does Barney Bennett sound fine, or too cartoonish for a baby name?

Please help - C-section is tomorrow and my hormonal brain is having a wobble!

We love the name Barney (potentially Barnaby on birth certificate). The problem is our surname is Bennett. I can’t make my mind up whether it has a nice flow or sounds like a silly cartoon character. His middle name will be Charles (family name). Am I going insane? We have other names on our list but none we love as much as this.

I like it! I like names that have the same first letter! Maybe it sounds a little like a character but it’s also memorable and has a nice ring to it.

Many years ago there was a child at my school called Barnaby Burton. Couldn’t tell you anything about him
but still remember the name.

You may think it's cute but your child has to go through their whole life with this name. Think into adulthood too. Barney Bennett - sorry but I think it sounds awful.

People talk about ‘cute’ and ‘sweet’ as if they’re a good thing, but I think that for anyone over toddler age ‘cute’ and ‘sweet’ rapidly morph into ‘cutesy’ and ‘twee’.

It would just become his name though, whatever people thought of it at first. If you like it, use it.

If you use it, definitely give him Barnaby as a full name. Barney as a stand alone name is very infantile.

Personally though I wouldn't do it, as it does sound cartoonish to me. I would have said this as feedback even if you hadn't posed the question. The fact you asked suggests to me that you know deep down it's not great. You have to consider, would our child appreciate our choice? If you're questioning it, it's likely they won't.

You have some lovely names on your list. I'd save Barney for a future pet.

I think Barney and Barnaby Bennett sound too cartoonish. I can’t imagine taking a high court judge with that name seriously. I think Otto, Max and Percy are heading on the same direction. The other names are greats!

I like it. As a teacher I know it will be one of those names where you always want to say both names because it's such a pleasing sound. I have known a few.

It sounds similar to Benjamin Button, how did you feel about that film name?
I quite like it but with the full Barnaby as his first name. Sebastian jasper and max would also work

Oh gosh some very mixed opinions here 😂 the point about naming an adult not a child is a big one, I don’t want to saddle him with something that sounds childish. I assumed with the popularity of ey/ie names (Freddie, Teddy) this association had died down though.

Percy is my husband’s choice, I don’t like it but he loves it.

Arthur was our next favourite but neither of us liked the sound of Artie which I assume he would inevitably be called by friends.
