Is Sunday a bad girl name?

I know Sunday is an odd name and I know it’s been gaining a bit more popularity over the past year but I really like the name Sunday especially with just the meaning of like a Sunday morning kind of beauty and the nickname Sunny. I’m not too sure I’m on the fence with it due to how some people would react to naming my daughter after a day of the week?? opinions?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Thatsquark · 02/07/2026 10:15

You think the name is “odd”

So why on earth would you want to name your child it?

Thatsquark · 02/07/2026 10:15

Your daughter may work Sunday shifts!

ThatPearlPoet · 02/07/2026 10:15

I like it. I know a little girl called Tuesday (nickname too-ee), and no issues for having the day of a week for a name. It won’t be the most unusual name in the class!!

Was she born on a Tuesday ?

DramaAlpaca · 02/07/2026 10:16

Nicole Kidman has a daughter called Sunday Rose.

Timeforaglassofwine · 02/07/2026 10:17

No, I think its sweet. No bad can come from naming your daughter after a Norse Goddess! It reminds me of the Blondie song which I love, but is unfortunately about an affair partner.

littleoneandme · 02/07/2026 10:22

Once it’s her name, people won’t think anything of it.
I worked with a girl called Tuesday, yes I thought it was unusual at first but then I just saw it as her name.
If you like it go for it, you’ll always get people who like it and people who don’t, you could pick a completely inoffensive name like Sarah or Joseph and somebody somewhere will probably have something to say.

yonem · 02/07/2026 10:27

I think it’s dreadful sorry. People who don’t like her can say they’ve got the Sunday scaries 😂
I worked with someone called Monday who didn’t like his name and always seemed faintly embarrassed to introduce himself.

NuffSaidSam · 02/07/2026 10:31

It's a great name for a day of the week or an ice cream (when spelt Sundae). It's also a range of bath products (also Sundae). But it's not a good name for a child.

PoliteBee · 02/07/2026 10:33

Ridiculous. Go for Bank-Holiday.

AlgaeDreams · 02/07/2026 10:37

Every day is like Sunday...

I hate Sundays.

It's fine for Nicole Kidman but I really don't like it. Sorry.

That said, I didn't like my Granddaughter's name, but she's here (been here a while!) and it just fits now. No nickname, the long version 😍

I was thinking back to when my kids were at school and if they asked if Sunday could come to play, I probably wouldn't have batted an eyelid.

I'm an opinion of two halves 😂

Go with what you love and don't ask for opinions is my advice.

It's not chavvy, there is that!

waltrs55 · 02/07/2026 10:49

I like it! Sunny is so cheery.

Chamallo · 02/07/2026 11:07

I prefer Sunny. If you’re going to use that as a nickname, why not full name?
Or other sunny names…
Soleil
Marisol
Solene
Summer
Stella
Lucia
Dawn

blankcanvas3 · 02/07/2026 11:15

I really like it

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 02/07/2026 11:21

I feel like she’ll forever be asked if she was born on a Sunday.

Isn't Sunday just named after the Sun?

roshi42 · 02/07/2026 11:36

Aw, I love it. Sunny is so cute. She’ll be bonny and blithe and good and gay!

bigsoftcocks · 02/07/2026 11:56

Yes

Ncforthis2267 · 02/07/2026 12:04

I had a friend called Tuesday! She was born On a Saturday! Il pipe the name Sunday

Thatsquark · 02/07/2026 14:27

I just find it odd @ichiha68 that you’re even considering a name that you think is “odd”

DramaAlpaca · 02/07/2026 10:16

Nicole Kidman has a daughter called Sunday Rose.

I always think that sounds like Sunday roast.

It’s okay OP if you feel like something non-traditional (just not with Rose!).

Nicole Kidman has a daughter called Sunday Rose.

Sounds like a Farrow and Ball paint colour!

IwanttoWFH · 02/07/2026 15:54

I really like it. It’s no different to calling her May or June etc

OtterandaRock · 02/07/2026 15:56

How about Dominique or Domenica, which also means Sunday?

For the sound, Sunita or Sanjana if you have South Asian heritage?

Sunniva, Solange, Aurora, Rae, Dawn?
