Is Sunday a bad girl name?

I know Sunday is an odd name and I know it’s been gaining a bit more popularity over the past year but I really like the name Sunday especially with just the meaning of like a Sunday morning kind of beauty and the nickname Sunny. I’m not too sure I’m on the fence with it due to how some people would react to naming my daughter after a day of the week?? opinions?

Someone who knows kids can be cruel (especially in secondary schools) so wants to find a name for their child that is innocuous.

They really aren’t. It’s just the kind of nonsense you get from a certain subcategory of posters on here who think all children should be called Jack and Sophie.

Not as bad as Wednesday. And you don’t have a roast on a Wednesday. So….

I’ve been known to have a roast on a Wednesday!!! I wouldn’t name a child any day of the week.

" I really like the name Sunday especially with just the meaning of like a Sunday morning kind of beauty and the nickname Sunny."
As soon as you mentioned 'Sunday morning', Lionel Ritchie/The Commodores started playing in my head. A song called "Easy", the chorus of which is:

Ooh, that's why I'm easy
I'm easy like Sunday morning
That's why I'm easy
I'm easy like Sunday morning

I'd hesitate to call a girl Sunday, risking her being given the nickname Easy.

NewGoldFox · 02/07/2026 18:15

I prefer Sundays to Mondays

Easy like Sunday morning?

Edited

Yes this is the lyric re Sunday mornings.

A pertinent question OP is would you like to be called Sunday - given the choice?

I will take your word for it, as I don’t know what children are like in schools nowadays.

I doubt that the youth of the future will know who Lionel Richie is.

Nicole Kidman has a daughter called Sunday Rose.

Known affectionately as “Sunday Roast.”

Magsbd · 02/07/2026 18:40

Sunday would be a silly name. Awful for any child.

I used to work with a woman called Friday.

I used to work somewhere where they had “Fat Fridays”
Pizza, Donuts, crisps, coke, etc,

It’s a beautiful name. I usually associate it with various African diaspora who tend to favour the name.

This would make no sense because her name isn’t Sunday morning. And that song is ancient even to me let alone 2026 babies.

Marcipex · 02/07/2026 21:17

I think it’s lovely.
Calm and warm and easy to spell and pronounce.

Shinyhappyapple · 02/07/2026 21:34

I’m now singing the Blondie song in my head.

Never heard of Sunday as a name before - but I do really like it. Not so keen on Sunny, but yes, I like Sunday.

IFancyABaconSarnie · 02/07/2026 21:49

Sunday Roast

But the child who is born on the sabbath day, is blithe and bonny, good and gay ☀️

lottiegarbanzo · 02/07/2026 21:53

Sonny is a boy name though.

Giraffehaver · 02/07/2026 22:41

I'm not keen. Sounds a bit twee to me

For me it’s the name of the vampire on Buffy who led the gang that killed baby Pedro Pascal! 😁
