Thoughts on the baby name Knowledge with a surname like Smith

Sweethearttttttt · Today 04:20

Me and my partner really like the name "Knowledge" for a boy. I'm curious to see what other people think of this name choice.

Knowledge Jamie Smith (our last name is very similar to Smith)

Jamie is the middle name because his father's name is James.

I think it holds a warm and curious energy. What do you guys think?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Marcipex · Today 12:18

Jamie is nice.

AlbieJiggered · Today 12:21

Have you considered Knowledge S. Power Smith @Sweethearttttttt ?

AlbieJiggered · Today 12:23

garlictwist · Today 10:22

Well, it means "wisdom" which is similar.

Not close enough. Knowledge is gnosi.

OP probably won't come back.

TonTonMacoute · Today 12:25

Knowledge is not a name, doesn't matter what the surname is

KilkennyCats · Today 12:26

He'll make the headlines when he fails his GCSE's.

Punishment???

I know a bloke called Godstime & a couple of women called Comfort. But Punishment as a name….

It has a goth vibe.
I would have loved it. For a while.

BeardofHagrid · Today 12:34

Just give it a completely normal name like Beowulf.

Owmyelbow · Today 12:36

Do you hate your child?

Pieceofpurplesky · Today 12:38

I've taught some kids with great names - Marvelous, Precious, Divine, Wisdom - they have all suited their names but Knowledge is a bit over used in school language as people have said - knowledge check, knowledge organiser, knowledge quiz ...
The only girl I have ever taught who hated her name and it didn't suit her, she was called Star. Her parents wanted her to be arty and a performer - she preferred to be quiet and read a lot. She was a star in her own way but really didn't like being the centre of attention at all! She felt her name was too big for her to live up to!

If you are going for the 17th century Puritan vibe, Praise-God Barebone has a certain ring to it.

My daughter works with a woman called Peace. She is rude and disruptive, always causing trouble.

Very unpeacelike.

RaininSummer · Today 13:17

One of the oddest name suggestions I have ever heard tbh.

ToadRage · Today 13:34

Eugh, sorry OP but it sounds really pretentious like Destiny, Miracle or Heaven.

mrsbowes · Today 13:44

I always thought Mumsnet loved very traditional names, and something like Knowledge (or Patience, Love, Humility, Temperance etc) are very old fashioned.

There's no real reason that some noun/virtue names are still used and some aren't.

Knowledge is not a traditional name in the UK. It hasn't even stood the test of time from the Interregnum, if it was ever used then.
Traditional names would be John, Andrew, Thomas, Peter etc.
Names from the bible have been used continuously for many hundreds of years.

PolkaDotPorridge · Today 13:52

He’s going to dim with parents that think Knowledge is a good name…

TheDrswife · Today 14:11

No. Just no.

Piggywaspushed · Today 14:28

Wisdom? That is actually still used in some communities.

localnotail · Today 15:18

Only if you are from some weird Christian sect - and even then its, erm, weird.

localnotail · Today 15:19

I know of two kids who are called Justice and Miracle. And a lady called Loveth.

They are all very religious with African (Nigerian?) background.

Mumofyellows · Today 15:20

Oh it’s very silly, I wouldn’t!

Specialneedsnightmare · Today 15:27

This is clearly a wind up

IdaGlossop · Today 16:37

A bit of a hostage to fortune for your poor boy if he doesn't do terribly well at school, isn't it?

Blueberrymuffinbanana · Today 16:42

This name is normal for certain group of individuals. The use of precious, wisdom, gift could also be normal. I personally wouldn’t if you don’t fit into this group.

Are you hoping he'll become a taxi driver? 😂
