....what would their name be?

Try and be decisive, no more than 2 suggestions per sex!

For me:
Boy: Gilbert or Laurie
Girl: Ginny

Doesn't anyone actually know a (young) Gilbert? Trying to work out if I should be brave and use it, or if my assumption that I wouldn't be thanked for it later is correct...

I also love Clover, but we've got a nature based middle name picked out and I think it would be a bit too floral to do both.

Edited

Be brave. There is a lot more variety in names these days and children are more open to more unusual names. There's also a couple of nicknames he could use rather than the full name if he prefers.
If you love Clover, use that and save the nature name for another baby. Or perhaps there's a different form of the name you could use

I did meet a young Gilbert - but he was about 6 and probably 15 years ago, so not that young anymore.

I’d definitely go for it if you can get your partner on board!

Read "Friday's Child" by Georgette Heyer. Gil (Gilbert) Ringwood is a lovely character.

I'm guessing The Thorn Birds?

Yes!

Fanny and Dick from the Magic Faraway Tree. Saucepan Man is also an excellent name.

Celeste from Babar the Elephant for a girl. I seriously would actually have used this but we adopted and so both DC came with their names already given.

I don't really have one for a boy (NOT Babar anyway).

I did! Antigone.

Zephir is actually quite cool!

Clara (loved her more than Heidi!)
cecily (what Katy did)

fredrick (little women )
corny (Catherine Cookson books)

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · Yesterday 20:24

Zephir is quite a cool name, but clearly didn't have the impact on 4 yr old me that Celeste did.

luckylavender · Yesterday 20:26

I did. Can’t say what as too outing.

I love Atticus too but DH vetoed it. He wanted Cadwalladah 😱

Isolde for a girl. Not necessarily because of the character but I’ve just always loved Welsh names. Scout of course. My favourite book.

My name is Heidi. I loathe it.

He's actually pretty pro, because of the rugby ball 🤣

I remember when that dance company was on Strictly, they were really good.

Barnaby - from Barnaby the bear. When I was a child I received this book from a school friend one birthday, absolutely loved it and the tv programme.

Eustacia or Catherine for a girl.
Return of the Native, and Wuthering Heighrs.

Were they? Wish I had seen them. I must have a look on Iplayer to see if it's on there - thank you for telling me.
Celeste was a lovely girl at school, but a pain in the neck for the teachers - she definately wasn't interested in trigonometry, for instance 😁.

I called one of my daughters after a Trollope heroine (no, she is not Glencora :))
