....what would their name be?

Try and be decisive, no more than 2 suggestions per sex!

For me:
Boy: Gilbert or Laurie
Girl: Ginny

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Tess (Of The D'urbervilles)
Tabitha (Riders)
Rhett (Gone With The Wind)
Dally (The Outsiders)

Heidi, Petrova or Stevie (saddle club!)
I didn't actually consider any of these except Heidi when I was pregnant but my husband didn't like it. Another of my favourites was anne of green gables and my daughter is annie- that's not actually her name but somehow it's became her nickname and I love it!

dotdotdotdash · 01/06/2026 23:35

Clover (again…) and Kester (Woodseaves from Precious Bane)

Rookie93 · 01/06/2026 23:39

Always wanted either a Heidi or Katie (from what Katie did). For a boy fancied Curdie from Curdie & the Princess.

My youngest daughter ( age 33) is named after a woman in the best book I've ever read.Read it three times.. then they made a television series.

Nia! (Which was almost my eldest’s name tbf. Her name is a different character from the same book!)

Perdita. From The Winter's Tale or 101 Dalmatians, take your pick!
I wouldn't recommend Pongo for a boy though.

babybythesea · Yesterday 08:07

I did!

Emily, after Emily of New Moon.

ivyleafgeranium · Yesterday 08:37

I wanted Fuchsia too as I loved Gormenghast, but was talked out of it because of the difficult spelling. Good job as DD loves most flowers and really hates fuchsias!

Well, you guessed one of mine. My Fuchsia has had this problem. She went to the local grammar school - they had a small note pinned up in the staff common room to show the correct spelling!

KnitWitsAnonymous · Yesterday 09:56

As a Moomins fan, I always thought Little My would be a good name for a DD going through the 'Terrible Two's'

PermanentTemporary · Yesterday 09:57

I knew a Fuchsia. Gorgeous name.

From my childhood:
Nancy (Blackett)
Jill (Jill’s Pony books)

Now:
Brodie (Jackson Brodie books)

Doesn't anyone actually know a (young) Gilbert? Trying to work out if I should be brave and use it, or if my assumption that I wouldn't be thanked for it later is correct...

I also love Clover, but we've got a nature based middle name picked out and I think it would be a bit too floral to do both.

Maleficent. I have a dark streak in me.

Tarzan in the absolute original Edgar Rice Burroughs books was my favourite hero when I was a child, but at least I have managed to prevent myself considering that name 🙃

MarshallZEK · Yesterday 17:15

Ha ha, when I was a child and obsessed with the Chronicles of Narnia, I wanted my imaginary children to be called Caspian and Diggory.

When I was pregnant, I had come to my senses considerably in the intervening years, but we still had both Peter and Edmund on the boys shortlist.

I had a girl in the end, or we would probably have used both.
