....what would their name be?

Try and be decisive, no more than 2 suggestions per sex!

For me:
Boy: Gilbert or Laurie
Girl: Ginny

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

My girl would be Jo, same books as your boy? (have not read further)

I can't think of a boy... Moonface? 😂

Moonface 🤣🤣🤣 not saucepan man?!

Jo and Laurie very much in the same book. Gilbert belongs with Anne and Diana!

Catherine ( Wuthering Heights)

PermanentTemporary · 01/06/2026 22:17

Susannah from Susannah of the Yukon, or Clover from What Katy Did.
Dickon from the Secret Garden. Ok I probably wouldn’t use this but I’ve always liked it. Maybe Simon from The Wolves of Willoughby Chase.

Lyra- I'm 40 and grew up reading Northern Lights etc. Still my favourite books of all time 💕

Gabriel (Oak)- I read a lot of classics in my late teens and early twenties. If I had a third son this would have been his name; it fits perfectly with my existing boys names.

Mumofgirls2017 · 01/06/2026 22:21

Boy: Atticus or Harry
girl: Clover or Lyra

Giraffehaver · 01/06/2026 22:29

Demelza not because of Poldark but because I first read it there and fell I'm love with it.
Boy would be Conrad thanks to The Summer I turned Pretty. Both immediately vetoed

Aquamarineteal · 01/06/2026 22:32

Jo (Little Women and the Chalet School books)
Natasha (War and Peace)

Fitzwilliam (Pride and Prejudice)
Ewen / Ewan (Flight of the Heron and Sunset Song)

damemaggiescurledupperlip · 01/06/2026 22:38

Another one for Clover

oviraptor21 · 01/06/2026 22:38

Favourite children's book would be
Nell or Howard
from My Friend Flicka

Dodorogers · 01/06/2026 22:40

From the same book - I would’ve loved a girl called Scout and also loved Atticus for a boy but my DP didnt like it!

Livpool · 01/06/2026 22:40

Atticus

pigalow27 · 01/06/2026 22:43

Lorna (Lorna Doone)
Becky (Sharp- Vanity Fair)

Jay (Gatsby)
Sebastian (Flyte- Brideshead Revisited)

PeatandDieselfan · 01/06/2026 22:44

Girls:
Ronja (the robber's daughter, by Astrid Lindgren)
Akiko (young Samurai series, Chris Bradford)

Boys:
Cosmo (the Shadow Guests, Joan Aiken) Goacher (Astercote, Penelope Lively)

XelaM · 01/06/2026 22:44

Scarlett of course (O'Hara from Gone with the Wind) - best female literary character in my view. I always wanted to be as strong and resilient as her.

Andrei (Bolkonsky from War and Peace) - my childhood crush.

Otterseatpuffinsdontthey · 01/06/2026 22:45

Geillis (female/Outlander)

NormasArse · 01/06/2026 22:50

Snufkin

Quangle Wangle

I’m not sure either of mine would work.

Dodorogers · 01/06/2026 22:53

When I was younger Titus and Fuchsia

Thiswasanescapeplan · 01/06/2026 22:56

Hagrid for a boy
Hagrida for a girl

Toddlerteaplease · 01/06/2026 22:56

Sherlock. I named a cat it, instead!

I also adored Anne of Green Gables – so maybe Katherine with a K!

Or Marilla (Rilla). I love that name

Applecup · 01/06/2026 23:00

I wanted Ross after reading the Poldark books.

sugarapplelane · 01/06/2026 23:07

Elliania · 01/06/2026 23:08

Girl: Scout or Melanie

Boy: Harry (Not Potter) or Edward

I read a lot of fantasy books and those don't often make for good names for kids. Probably pets in the future though! (Even though my partner is boring and won't let me have a pair of cats called Glorfindel and Legolas. Humph)

My daughter is called Nell after My Friend Flicka. I had Carey (Green Grass of Wyoming) on the list too but was vetoed.

WimbyAce · 01/06/2026 23:23

We named our daughter Heidi. I love it and it has a little nod to Germany which is special for me.
