....what would their name be?

Try and be decisive, no more than 2 suggestions per sex!

For me:
Boy: Gilbert or Laurie
Girl: Ginny

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Olivia, from the Olivia books by Ian Falconer
Flora, from 'Flora and Ulysses', by Kate di Camillo

Favourite childhood books would have given me a daughter called Pippi (Longstocking) or Arrietty (Borrowers) or a son called James (Giant Peach) or Stig (Of the Dump).

Peanutgurgle · 01/06/2026 20:34

Lotta

I’ve met an Arrietty! Such a great name.

Emily - LM Montgomery character (I love Anne of Green Gables)
Jack - nice strong name, can’t be messed with
and have used Blythe as a middle name for my other daughter - although she is my thing but!

Gosh a lot of affection for Jude the Obscure - I mean Jude is a nice name, but not a character I would want to name someone after, he has the most horrible life

Pieceofpurplesky · 01/06/2026 20:45

Zach (Goodnight Mr Tom) or Gabriel (Oak)

Scarlett (O'Hara) or Viola. Ginny was my favourite name but nothing to do with Potter)

Kizzy (Keziah) from the Diddakoi.
Jude, from Jude the Obscure.

These were the names we had lined up for DC2 but a few weeks before their arrival, we changed our minds and went with a different one. I'd still use these names though.

I loved The Diddakoi so much. Kizzy is a wonderful character.

CPandme · 01/06/2026 21:00

Katie from What Katie Did (but I’m not keen the name) Susan Coolidge
Sally (Mallory Towers) blyton

Boys Dickson from Secret Garden (prefer to Colin)Frances Hodgson Burnett
Danny - Danny the champion of the world Roald Dahl

Gah I adored Gilbert and even suggested it as a name to DH but he said he wasn’t naming his son after a rugby ball 😭 (I think I’ve always liked Cordelia simply because Anne thought it was so romantic).

For a girl: maybe Josephine. Double whammy of both Little Women and Chalet School.

DH wanted Lyra which I agree is a lovely name and a great character/series, but I personally know four people who have called their daughters Lyra…

🤣 watching rugby only makes me remember again how much I like Gilbert! It's one of those ones though where I don't know if I'd be brave enough to use it because I'd worry that without the association of adoring Anne of Green Gables my child wouldn't necessarily love their name. It's always on the long list but doesn't make it to the final round.

Can imagine a cool teenage boy call Gil! Or Bert.

Did you name either of your sons Peter?!

Wasn't Heidi really Adelheid/Adelaide?

I quite like Clara.
