Would Maximus Decimus Meridius be too much for a baby name?

My DH is a huge Ridley Scott fan. He wants to call our son Maximus Decimus Meridius.
I’m not so sure. I’m worried he might get bullied?

Seriously? If this is true, I can only hope that your son will be known as Max and no one will ever be told the remainder of his names.

enok · 30/05/2026 20:18

Great name almost on the same level as sparticus

Ilikeanicecupofteainthemorning · 30/05/2026 20:18

tell him to change his own name to that if he's so keen

Undertheeaves · 30/05/2026 20:18

Don't do it. There are 4 of these in my DDs primary one class already. My son is one of 3 Spartacus's (Spartici?) and he hates it.

Bit too common these days. He'll be one of three or four in his year.

Have you considered making it a bit more unique, such as Maksymus Dessimuce Mérhydious?

Fatiguedwithlife · 30/05/2026 20:20

That’s funny as DP suggested this for our DS who is now 12, And we were actually talking about it yesterday and DS said he wished I had allowed it ha ha.

EddiesTies · 30/05/2026 20:20

What about Hovis?

Notmyreality · 30/05/2026 20:21

And if we have a girl he is thinking Thelma (or Louise).

to be clear, I never in a million years considered it

Besafeeatcake · 30/05/2026 20:21

Why do you hate your child?

BananaPeels · 30/05/2026 20:21

Surname Smith?

Echobelly · 30/05/2026 20:23

TBH, it's probably fine as he'd just be called Max. His friends would have a laugh when then see his passport, and it will get a giggle if he gets married - my BIL has two rather pretentious middle names that don't really go with his first name and everyone tittered when his whole name was given at the wedding.

Sskka · 30/05/2026 20:23

Who the fuck is going to bully somebody with a name like that? They’ll be cowering behind their chairs.

Do it.

That is beautiful, seriously.

I understand that Biggus Dickus is making a comeback

Silverbirchleaf · 30/05/2026 20:25

Hello Mrs Rees-Mogg?

SkippitySkoppity · 30/05/2026 20:26

This feels very 2005 coded. Big brother called Cantona.

sesquipedalian · 30/05/2026 20:28

OP, is this baby to be the tenth of your children? Because that’s what Decimus means - the tenth. Do you get any say in the naming if your future DC? I’d be exercising my power of veto.

CamillaMcCauley · 30/05/2026 20:29

I mean, if you want to risk him becoming a father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife, go for it.

Nominative determinism is a real thing.

I was going to post the same. If it is twins, what about Maximus and Sparticus?

Overtheatlantic · 30/05/2026 20:30

It’s a stupid name, even in the movie.

Ohcrap082024 · 30/05/2026 20:32

Or Hannibal?

AWeeCupOfTeaAndAnIndividualFruitTrifle · 30/05/2026 20:32

It isn't just a baby that you're naming - it's a name for him in this whole life, OR the next.
