Thoughts on Skylar for a girl? I find it pretty but cannot picture it on a woman who is 30+. I'm thinking it might be one of those names that doesn't age well because of the youthful quality it has.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
giemepeace · 29/05/2026 16:22

It’s not for me. But Skylar from Breaking Bad is 30+, I think that’s where the name became popular?

RS1987 · 29/05/2026 16:23

I don’t like it but definitely don’t see it as youthful either

Raciney · 29/05/2026 16:25

Always reminds me of a skylight

or the famous Skyler sisters/ family. It’s a surname usually

Peanutlicious · 29/05/2026 16:50

I really like it and think it works for all ages.

minipie · 29/05/2026 16:51

I like Skye but not convinced about Skylar.

manovertheroad · 29/05/2026 16:54

I don’t like it - it’s quite hard to say iykwim (doesn’t flow well? Hard to explain) - I prefer Skye on its own, but appreciate that’s a different to name entirely.

calishire · 29/05/2026 16:55

I’ve always absolutely loved this name. It was on my list for a girl but I got two boys and my husband didn’t like it. I think it’s beautiful for any age.

BoleynMemories13 · 29/05/2026 16:56

It's not to my taste at all. I certainly wouldn't describe it as pretty, although Skye is quite nice.

Skylar is way too trendy for me. I'm actually the opposite to you, I don't think it suits a baby/young child as it sounds quite harsh to my eyes. I can picture it more on a teen/young woman.

We all have different tastes though.

HugoThatway · 29/05/2026 17:07

Dated and trashy.

Rainbow1235 · 29/05/2026 17:13

My granddaughter is skyla she’s 2 and it realy suits her . I’ve grown to love it

OxRug · 29/05/2026 17:13

Just makes me think of Smithy

Gavlaaar

holdupp · 29/05/2026 17:19

I prefer Skye.

Firebird83 · 29/05/2026 17:33

Feels a bit dated American.

PuppyMonkey · 29/05/2026 17:43

i can’t picture a baby Skylar at all. Can only picture Walter White’s wife.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 29/05/2026 21:49

Not so keen. How about Skye or Sylke?

Bumbers · 29/05/2026 21:50

I love it!

SausageRoll2020 · 29/05/2026 21:53

It brings to mind families of a lower socio economic class.
I think it was once listed in one of articles about names teachers find primarily belong to "naughty" children.

PleasinglyPlump · 29/05/2026 21:54

I think of Minnie Driver’s character in Good Will Hunting. So it suits an adult in my eyes more than I can imagine it on a baby. It’s a perfectly pleasant name.

OxRug · 29/05/2026 17:13

Just makes me think of Smithy

Gavlaaar

👆this!

nixon1976 · 29/05/2026 22:34

It’s a 45 year old American man’s name where I’m from

user293948849167 · 30/05/2026 00:36

I don’t like it sorry. Skye is much nicer

Pieceofpurplesky · 30/05/2026 00:43

Showing my age but always makes
me thing of 'All aboard the skylark' from a 70s cartoon called Noah and Nellie! And yes I've taught a Skylar and this went through my head every time.

purpleme12 · 30/05/2026 00:44

I think it's lovely

And works fine for any age. But then I'm always confused by people who thing 'that name only works when they're young'

KnittyKnotty · 30/05/2026 00:51

I know a budgie called Skylar.

Biffsboys · 30/05/2026 01:10

I don’t like it - sounds too harsh for a baby ..
My dog is called Skye so that rules that out as well.
