Thoughts on Skylar for a girl? I find it pretty but cannot picture it on a woman who is 30+. I'm thinking it might be one of those names that doesn't age well because of the youthful quality it has.

Can't stand it. IMO it sounds like one of those "yooneek" names where someone thought "well i like Skye, and i like Kyla, so let's smoosh them together coz that's so cool".

A friends name is Skyler. I am not overly keen on it personally, but equally I don’t hate it. I can imagine as a grown woman, she may become Sky.

The more I have read the name on this thread it has grown on me slightly and I can see why someone would think it is pretty.

However, initially I thought it is anything but youthful, more a 30-40 something working in a diner in some crap town in a desert in the US, does a few turns on the pole at the local strip club to make ends meet.

I associate the name very strongly with breaking bad. But she's not that bad a character, just not a lovable one.

I would prefer Skye myself.

Would you pronounce it the same as Skyler/Skyla? The only Skylar I know is very particular about it being said Sky-larrr which I very find very unnatural and have to pay close attention to my pronunciation every time!

I was going to suggest that it’s a bit dated, but perhaps it one of those 90s names that’s coming round again

Have taught one Skylar and know of another, both in their mid to late teens now.
It has definite connotations of lower socio-economic class, unfortunately, as it’s quite a pretty name.
