Afternoon, DH and I are expecting twins, we haven’t found out the sex’s and don’t plan to, but I am due very soon and wondering what of options for combinations of names you like best.

So for girl/girl
We are stuck between
Leonora and Margarita (my favourite but DH worries it’s a bit “heavy”)
or
Leonora and Carlotta
or
Charlotte and Madeleine

Boy/Girl
Gabriel and Leonora
Gabriel and Charlotte
Sebastian and Margarita

Boy/Boy
Gabriel and Sebastian
Augustus and Sebastian
Gabriel and Theodore

Which combo is your favourite? Any you really dislike? Any combinations you think we might like?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Also consider the accent where you live. T often gets dropped and -a is usually -uh in the UK. Kuh-loh-uh and Mah-guh-ree-uh don't sound as pretty.

(I liked Natalie but it's Nah-uh-lee here Sad)

comoatoupeira · 28/05/2026 20:24

I think you really need to let Margarita go.

Carlotta is really not good when said in British accents. Lots of T dropping.

have you thought that one of the names could have one or two syllables, seeing as they will be said together?

Firebird83 · 28/05/2026 20:26

Leonora and Carlotta
Gabriel and Leonora
Gabriel and Augustus (or August?)

That definitely is regional though, like you say Smile

Gabriel & Sebastian
Leonora & Madeleine

So for girl/girl
Leonora and Carlotta
(margarita is a pizza)

Boy/Girl
Sebastian and Leonora

Boy/Boy
Augustus and Sebastian

NamingNoNames · 28/05/2026 21:18

margarita is a pizza. The pizza is margherita.

DiscoBeat · 28/05/2026 21:27

I love Leonora and Margarita but it's worth considering the number of syllabals every single time you talk about them - it's 9! I also love Sebastian but maybe it's worth thinking of balancing one long name with a short one?

Yeah…… I’m sure the fact it’s spelt differently will stop all the kids at school from making the connection and laughing about it 🙄

SinuousTendrils · 28/05/2026 21:35

Your names are great
I like Leonora and Carlotta best (Leo and Carlo so lovely)
Gabriel and Leonora
Gabriel and Theodore

I've never liked Sebastian or Seb
Margarita is a lovely name too.
I wish I'd thought of these names!

NCfor24 · 28/05/2026 21:37

Leonora and Theodore (Lennie and Teddy) - love this combination.
Agree with others preferring Marguerite to Margarita...would likely use Maggie personally. And girls Leonora and Marguerite sound complimentary but not "twinnie". I'm a big fan of proper names but with a sensible nickname or abbreviation.
Boys I'd say Theodore and Gabriel. They compliment one another, can be nicely shortened to Theo or Teddy and Gabe.

I have boy/girl twins and definitely agree with very distinct names not matchy or even same initial and I think it's even more important for same sex pairings...they will still be called "the twins" but I believe it's easier to forge their own way and identities with distinctly different sounding names.

Familyandmore · 28/05/2026 21:40

Charlotte and Madeleine
Gabriel and Charlotte
Gabriel and Sebastian

DH is half Spanish, I am half Italian, but we aren’t really picking names based on where they are from originally just how much we personally like them.

In that case choosing names with a latin/Mediterranean vibe is brilliant

I love Valentina, Ilaria, Susana too which work for both countries

And Rafael, Sebastian and Daniel

PrincessHoneysuckle · 28/05/2026 21:58

Dont lumber a baby with the name of a pizza

JustGiveMeReason · 28/05/2026 22:52

I personally only like Charlotte and Theodore from your list, and that's presuming he would go as Theo most of the time.

I think there are too many syllables going on, particularly for twins.

Boy - Girl = Sebastian (Seb) and Charlotte

Boy - Boy = Sebastian and Theodore (Theo)

Congrats and wishing you all the joys to come on your special little ones 🥰

I like the name Margarita and you can nip teasing in the bud by not rising to the bait.

LivingTheDreamish · 29/05/2026 02:14

Leonora and Carlotta
Sebastian and Theodore

For a boy/girl set any combination of the above.

Peakyblinder18 · 29/05/2026 02:27

Google it @Thinkibell none of them sit together IMHO.
I'm a twin and always wondered why we were given such long holy names that everyone could shorten to boy's names.
Sometimes I wondered if we'd be different people if we'd got each other's names. 🤔
Tread carefully😊

Italiangreyhound · 29/05/2026 02:30

Leonora and Carlotta

Gabriel and Leonora

Gabriel and Sebastian

mathanxiety · 29/05/2026 02:39

I'm going off piste here, but I'd choose Leonora and Madeleine for girls.

I don't like Carlotta at all. Margarita - not keen either. Both strike me as names Enid Blyton would have used for 'Spanish' characters in boarding school books. They would have spoken with a lisp and nobody would have liked them at first. One would go on to earn respect and even a little admiration but the other would remain every bit the stuck up princess they all pegged her for on the first day.

For boys, Gabriel and Theodore.

For G/B twins, Gabriel and Charlotte.

SequinsandSolerosInTheSummertime · 29/05/2026 02:40

Gabriel and Sebastian are lovely
Carlotta is interesting but I prefer Carmen
I like Gabriella
Marianne rather than Margarita, Marguerite at a push
Like Thea, Theodora okay
Sylvie, Aurelie

Do not let Margarita go! It's a lovely name and I doubt there will be teasing. Kids will pick on anything - we had a Simon in my class who was called Slimon, on account of his perpetually runny nose...
