Afternoon, DH and I are expecting twins, we haven’t found out the sex’s and don’t plan to, but I am due very soon and wondering what of options for combinations of names you like best.

So for girl/girl
We are stuck between
Leonora and Margarita (my favourite but DH worries it’s a bit “heavy”)
or
Leonora and Carlotta
or
Charlotte and Madeleine

Boy/Girl
Gabriel and Leonora
Gabriel and Charlotte
Sebastian and Margarita

Boy/Boy
Gabriel and Sebastian
Augustus and Sebastian
Gabriel and Theodore

Which combo is your favourite? Any you really dislike? Any combinations you think we might like?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Miyagi99 · 28/05/2026 14:23

Margarita is just a drink to me! Augustus is Augustus Gloop. The rest are fine.

ShetlandishMum · 28/05/2026 14:23

Leonora & Charlotte.
Theodor & Sebastian

Theodor & Charlotte.

faerylune · 28/05/2026 14:28

I really like Leonora, Charlotte and Madeleine. I agree with two long names it might feel too big to name them vowel heavy long names.
I like Gabriel and Theodore

suggestions
August
Lucian
Bernard
Marcus
Frederick
Roland
Edmund/Edward
Julian
Arthur
Elias
Aurelian

Juliet
Helena
Beatrice
Georgina
Lucia
Daphne
Florence
Maryelle
Rebecca
Olympia
Aurora
Cecily

I would vote for Gabriel and Theodore, Gabriel and Leonora and Charlotte and Madeleine.

Leo and Margo are cute nn for girls
Leonora is a lovely name, though agree together with Margarita is a lot. Maybe Marguerite better for the second name?

itsgettingweird · 28/05/2026 14:34

Personally I love some of your choices and some others I really don’t.

id go for

Sebastian and Charlotte

Congratulations and good luck. I have twins (now 17) and a singleton. What I've noticed over the years is that the twins names are said together much more than a twin and a singleton. So what I'd advice is you say out loud in your accent the two names together if its difficult think of a young peer of the twins being able to say the name and how annoying the dt might find miss pronunciation. Also any shortenings of the names (because even if you don't shorten them they or their peers or teachers may).

As the first combination of names had Margarita in, I thought this was going to be a joke thread and that the next pair was going to be something like Helena and Pepperami. Or Tibalt and Daquari.

Why? Margarita is a beautiful Spanish name?

From your girls list the two nicest names are Carlotta and Madeleine, they also go really well together so I'd go for those two.

From the boy/girl list you've lost your two best girl names! I'd reinstate those and go with Gabriel and Carlotta or Sebastian and Madeleine. They're all lovely names I can't choose between them.

From the boy/boy list it has to be Gabriel and Sebastian. Lovely combo.

But it is also a pizza and a drink unfortunately.

Advocodo · 28/05/2026 15:20

Hugo and Margo.

FoxHedgehogBadger · 28/05/2026 15:21

These would be my top picks from your options.

Girl/Girl
Leonora and Charlotte (Lea and Lottie)

Boy/Boy
Gabriel and Sebastian (Gabe and Seb)

Girl/Boy
Leonora and Sebastian (Lea and Seb)

But it is also a pizza and a drink unfortunately.

The pizza is Margherita which is also a well known name in Italy.
Olive, Rosemary, Summer, Mercedes are all also names that are words or names of a food/brand.

Lenor is a laundry product so don't use Leonora..
From your list
Gabriel
Sebastian
Though Gabe and Seb might be a bit much
Charlotte and Madeliene (Charlie /Lottie /Maddy)

I appreciate that it's spelt differently but it's pronounced the same.

I'm sure the parents of Summer, Mercedes, Olive and Rosemary had similar discussions then.

There's no point in asking for an opinion and then being arsey when you get one. It's a name that will make people think of pizza. That doesn't necessarily mean you shouldn't use it, but be aware that for lots of people in the UK it's a drink and a pizza way before it's a child's name.

Boy/girl, I like Gabriel and Charlotte, but Sebastian and Charlotte are nicer imo

Boy/boy, I like Gabriel and Sebastian or Theodore, but prefer Sebastian and Theodore

I really dislike Leonora, Margarita, Carlotta and Augustus.

BrickProblems · 28/05/2026 15:28

Agree with a PP who said the twins’ names will be said together A LOT (I can hardly even think of twins I know without thinking “Jo and Katy” “Alex and Rhys” etc) so try to make sure they’re easy to say in combo. That’ll be for friends, relations, teachers, etc.

Having said that my personal favourites are Leonora and Madeleine. Charlotte and Madeleine also nice.

Gabriel and Leonora is lovely. Gabriel and Sebastian works even though I don’t much like Seb.

I agree - Marguerite is a nice name. Margarita I wouldn’t think twice about it if I met someone from another country called this but if UK based I’d be surprised as the pizza especially is so universal. To answer OP you may be surprised that Margarita and Mercedes are both extremely rare names in the UK, 9 and 13 born in 2024 respectively. Food & car associations must have something to do with it.

The Margarita I know, her parents are Spanish and she’s know as Maggie or Mags.

FiloPasty · 28/05/2026 15:48

There is also a very unfortunate tik tok song that has Margerita in it that has quite rude connotations in it and I can imagine having someone sing that at you would be horrendous. Kids will and do pick on anything.

Agree also on other people shortening whatever names you give them so definitely keen that in mind.

Charlotte & Madeleine and Gabriel & Sebastian for me.

Are you or your partner Spanish?

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 28/05/2026 15:48

Charlotte Madeleine
gabriel leonora
gabriel Sebastian
