Unusual but not wacky girls names?

Trying to compile a list of girls’ names… I tend to like names which aren’t too common, I work in a school so unfortunately associate a lot of more popular or commonly used names with our pupils. I don’t want anything too crazy but would be interested to hear of any names which people love but don’t hear often?
For example, I really like the name Rumer, as in the children’s author Rumer Godden, but my husband hates it as associates it with “rumour” - which I get. I just liked that it’s different and I don’t know of anyone called Rumer!

My first thought when I read your thread title was Cora! Of the suggestions here I also love Seren and Emmeline (great association with Emmeline Pankhurst too). Also:

@stompinthewoods Rumer Goddens real name was Margaret, known as Peggy! She probably thought her second name was more memorable for an author. Her old sister was called Winsome

My daughter is Loveday (Cornish, but don’t live in Cornwall). Nobody here has ever come across it, my parents were at a drinks party and there were 4 granddaughters with the same name!

This is my dream name! And I don’t live in Cornwall either. Every now and again I toy with giving myself that as a middle name ☺️

My first was Rumer (she died as a baby). My other daughter is Marilla (Rilla) but we also liked Eris, the goddess of Chaos which may have been more appropriate!

Other names on our list were more boring like Maeve and Nell, we considered Cassiopeia briefly and Hilary.

unflappybelivabubble · 29/03/2026 23:20

Wren is a lovely name and my daughters middle name

Like Anne of Green Gables? So pretty! I have a Gilbert so we get that said to us a lot (as I bet you do 😅)

I’m sorry about the loss of your first daughter :(

TheBirdintheCave · 29/03/2026 23:26

My daughter is Marcella 🥰 It’s pretty unheard of in the UK! We love how international it is. She’s a toddler now and hearing her say her own name in her little baby voice is just so cute 😍
