Just that really

What’s the most unique and beautiful name you’ve ever heard?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

My daughter’s name is Eglantine. I think both unique and beautiful 🙂

It’s lovely.
Is the last syllable tyne or teen though?
I have a different name ending in ‘ine’ and find I get a mix of pronunciations (it’s een in my case). Does your daughter have any issues with this?

Namiemcnameface · 08/07/2026 21:25

I always loved Anouk, but one of those ones I don't think I'd be brave enough to use. Same with Clarabelle.

For a boy I loved Alessandro/Alejandro until 2009 when it was everywhere thanks to Lady Gaga 🤣 Elio sounds beautifully melodic to me and has a lovely meaning too.

My husband has a soft spot for Rufio!

We pronounce it to rhyme with shine. No, never any issues!

My boss is Italian his oldest girl is Eliana think that is beautiful

fairydustt · 09/07/2026 17:40

I don’t think many people will agree with me but my sons name is Lochlan and I think it is the most beautiful and strong boys name there is, but I would think that 😁 I also think Gabriel for a boy is beautiful, although I’m not sure I would choose it. For a girl, I think Elizabeth is a truly beautiful name that we ruin with nicknames like Liz!

MyOliveStork · 09/07/2026 17:43

My daughter’s middle name is Ingelise which is Danish. It’s very pretty, like her!!!!

Slight difference - I like Adelaide.

Also Evangeline and Emmeline.

Yes to Emmeline - I first heard it 20 years ago and loved it. I don’t think I’ve heard it since TBH, but think it’s beautiful.

irishcelticwitch · 09/07/2026 19:13

oh Gardenia is 🥰 my favourite girls name is Meredith, Merry for short.

AndresyFiorella · 10/07/2026 19:35

I love Arianwen. I only like it spoken with a Welsh accent though, the final syllable needs to be an 'e' not a schwa.

Fairly unique because it's not one of a kind. But I think it has a nice chime to it. Sweet briar, I think?

Ironically my mum has a middle name that IS unique because her father misheard a French name during WW2... but I can't say what it is as it's her password for pretty much everything!

I really like Aurelia.

I think it's quite subjective though. Some of the names mentioned above are definitely not beautiful to my ears!

I know an Aurelia who is horrible

BatchCookBabe · 12/07/2026 12:41

Aurelia makes me think of areola. ( ͜•人 ͜•)

SirChenjins · 12/07/2026 13:10

Ooh - fancy boobies! How did you do that on your keyboard?

deeahgwitch · 12/07/2026 16:11

I would pronounce Eglantine as Eglanteen.

Lakesideblue · 12/07/2026 16:30

I would too, but I suspected others mightn’t, which is why I asked upthread.

Fartughtyred · 12/07/2026 16:41

Fabienne
Pandora
Seraphina
Elke
Khadijah

touchyfeely · 12/07/2026 17:16

I love Iona or Ione. Also Portia and Camille.

Lilyargin · 12/07/2026 22:13

For those saying Adelaide is a beautiful name, laid/laide is French for ugly. I cannot think of it as a beautiful name. Aside from knowing that and it spoiling the name, I also think it is a very ‘heavy’ name, with those two d sounds. The German version of the name is Adelheid. Too similar to the old-fashioned German names like Hildegard and Edeltraut.
Laide is about right, I’d say.

Namiemcnameface · 13/07/2026 09:29

@Lilyargin I remember the first time I heard Edeltraut I thought it must be a joke 😅But then I remembered what Pippa means in Italian/greek slang and that we have a family friend called Satnav and so I guess someone having the word Trout in their name isn't so outlandish!

The name doesn't come from the French though; it's Germanic and means something like 'noble nature'.

HGHGHG · 13/07/2026 15:45

Ophelia

LasVegass · 13/07/2026 20:08

You can say Amelia means without limbs. But why spoil a pretty name for others?

It's not a pretty name with the ugly 'mealy' noise in it. But we shouldn't pretend that the medical definition doesn't exist. It's really sensible to be fully informed before choosing a name.
